the way cell phones work, they should be able to trace the general location/cell phone towers that were used whenever the phone went online at any given moment and whether or not Trina has an alibi/was in another location, completely ruling her out. They should also be able to see what Trina's usage pattern was and then see when/how/if that all changed. 

if this was a regular case I'm not sure they would bother going that deep, but considering they have Spinelli investigating and the case has become high profile because of all the parties involved I don't see how all that isn't being investigated.
