People always talk about Stephanie Forrester preferring Ridge over Thorne, but she sure went to great lengths to protect him when he shot up his older brother's @ss.

No doubt Ridge was still her favorite.

DAYS was setting up this type of story with Ava, Tripp, and Charlie. Ava had no use for Charlie, but adored Tripp because he's Steve's son. This could've been a good story but they killed Charlie off before really getting to explore the family dynamic.

That's the one I was thinking of. That being said, preferring Ridge does not mean not loving and wanting to protect Thorne.
Stephanie is an interesting case because she doesn't just favor one son over the other but she also favors both her sons over her daughters.

Does "She thought it was her son for a period of time" count for this?
Coz Y&R's Jill being so incredibly closer to Cane, who she briefly thought was her son but was actually not, than her actual living son Billy comes to my mind - in a bad way.

Any thoughts on Bert Bauer?

I don't recall her ever favoring Mike over Ed or vice versa.

My take on Bert is similar to Alice Horton with her sons Bill and Mickey.  Ed and Mickey were such screw-ups that it just made Mike and Bill easier to love.  It is not that Bert, nor Alice, didn't adore their more affect-driven, alcohol-dependent, unlucky-in-love sons, it just meant that their brothers created less worry and strife for the family.

OLTL Irene Manning favored Victor Jr. over Todd.

If she really was Irene Manning.  (I'm not convinced.)

TBH  That makes two of us.  Never was.   She was probably actually Maggie Chandler from SOAP after a government brainwashing...

I'd like to think the resurrected Victor and Irene (and the massive history retcons they respectively brought with them) were all the masterwork of someone out to drive Viki insane.

And then, in the most outrageous plot twist ever, we learn Allison Perkins was herself switched at birth with Megan Gordon, making her (Allison) Viki's biological daughter!  LOL!
