Thanks for these stats!

 

2002 to 2010- look at those incredibly high episode counts from the leaders.  That’s why the show felt so unbalanced.  Even if you were not in Sonny’s storyline, the characters were still all tied to or talking about him.

 

Although I bet if I saw counts from 1979, 1980, and 1981 I would see a lot of Luke and Laura and in 79 and 80, Scotty, and I bet Lesley just under them.  The show was better and more balanced, which is what JFP and Guza did not do, but still.  And by the mid 1980’s- Robert.

I would love to get more years.  2007-present is my viewership.  2000-2006 was done with a combination of recaps and transcripts.  I started 1999 but there were so many dates missing it wasn't worth continuing.

From my 1981 viewings I definitely think Luke would probably be number 1 but I actually feel Lesley would have still appeared more than Laura. In fact, I feel it's likely Heather may also have appeared more than Laura and possibly more than Lesley also.

 

I feel Robert was top ten as early as 1981 - so right from the get-go - and, with the sole exception of 1986 when Tristian Rogers had left for a year, would probably have stayed that way until 1991 (Robert's last full calendar year before being presumed dead in 1992).

In the 2020 year-to-date recount, of the 94 characters/actors listed, I would purge all of them except  possibly 20.

 

And the ones I would keep, the legacy characters, are mostly at the bottom of the list.
