Sad but not remotely surprising.

I won't say Xander on BTVS was ever a huge favorite of mine - he could be very funny, but the nastiness and entitlement the character projected towards Buffy and all the female leads grew worse by the year, and the vibe was strange from the beginning. Many years later it was no shock to discover Xander was essentially Joss Whedon's onscreen avatar taking out his own aggressions, even as Brendon's growing addiction and body issues BTS were written into scripts by Whedon to shame the actor.

Nicholas Brendon has spiraled into terrible behavior over the last couple decades and was generally always unpleasant to reencounter in the news (allegedly several BTVS actors including David Boreanaz did not want him at a recent high profile reunion), but 54 is still far too young. I'll be grateful for what I liked about his work.

I was never able to forgive Xander for the way he treated my favourite character, Anya, but losing a part of the scooby gang hurts regardless. It's a shame he had the issues he did, especially because it seemed like his career was going well initially after Buffy ended. He was a gorgeous man in the earlier years. For some reason, I had it in my mind that Joss basically ordered him to stop working out in the later seasons. Seeing the contrast from early to late Xander is striking. It is a small comfort that he passed peacefully in his sleep and still had a creative output in his last years. Rest in Peace, Nicholas Brendon, you'll always be a part of my happy adolescent memories.

I don't think even Whedon would do that and then simultaneously mock him as slovenly and overweight in the scripts. Joss was actively negging him over his addiction issues which in turn led to his body issues. The guys at Star Trek Voyager went through the same thing from the writers when they got a little heavier.

Man, even Chuck Norris died in the Age of Trump. RIP.

He was a big Trump booster, so I guess this is what he wanted.

I have nothing to say about him beyond that, other than that my grandfather loved Walker, Texas Ranger, so I thank him for giving my granddad a show to love.

Just a few days ago I read about a conflict he was having with some construction people over his house, so I'm a little surprised, but I guess every day could be your last.

When I first started reading Buffy fan comments (probably around season 5), I quickly realized how hated the character was. I could understand why, as even in his "better" moments Xander was judgmental and passive-aggressive, but I did have a soft spot for Xander in the first few seasons of the show. Brendon had a good way with the quippy Whedon dialogue, was eye candy, and did work well with Charisma and Allyson (onscreen, anyway). After that, everything went south, clearly offcamera as well.

I hope he is at peace.
