Sanchez of Bel Air is the first series that comes to mind whenever I saw Santoni but I guess since it was so short-lived not many people remember this.  Looking back from a cultural context, it makes me wonder whether there were any complaints about an actor of European portraying what was essentially supposed to be a Mexican-American character, although I'm not sure whether the country of origin was made explicit during the series.

RIP to Santoni. I definitely associate him most with Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law, which is one of the many shows on YT that I need to make time to watch more of one of these days.

I did a lot of off-and-on watching of RHODA this past weekend on the Decades network, and it reminded me of how much I love Billy Goldenberg's theme song for the show. I went to look up some of his other work and learned that he passed away last week. Definitely one of the GREAT film/TV composers.

My favorite of his TV themes is probably Harry O. I've been in love with the variation of the theme that opens the first act of this particular episode for years.

I am sad to hear about Billy Goldenberg. He wrote that gorgeous theme to Bare Essence sung by Miss Sarah Vaughan. I got to see him live in D.C. as he was Bea Arthur's accompanist in her traveling one-woman show, And Then There's Bea. They had a lovely rapport and I've seen him in other videos with Bea so I assume they were old friends.

I didn't realize he'd done the Bare Essence theme, too. Of course, I've only seen the miniseries, but all throughout, you had more great examples of the main theme being tweaked and rearranged for different scenes. In reading about his passing, I did learn that he and Bea were good friends for many years.

SFK, I know you'll feel this one the same way I did, but Raymond Allen, who played "Uncle Woody" on Sanford and Son and Ned the Wino on "Good Times," has passed away at 91. I know I've mentioned multiple times before how much S&S and its portrayal of common black folk have always meant to me. Every single cast member was just so funny that any time I hear of someone from the show passing away, I immediately think of my favorite bits featuring the character.

    • Oh, I see! You posted this on the general retro soap thread because of the voiceover.
    • Yeah, I agree. It's part of the reason I have shade picked on Martin's Secret being so on the backburner that it was about to fall off of it. With Dani/Bill/Hayley being the main tale to start us off and backburned and the SilkPress storyline being well paced, but not set to explode until May, Martin's Secret was the other main storyline that could have been developed. And after giving it a nice slow burn to start off, the story upped and vanished in Month 2. That left the show having to rely on mostly B/C stories to stay afloat to various degrees of success.
    • I loved those scenes, lol. I thought I was watching a stage play. But I do hear what you're saying.
    • Jason47's episode summaries clarify everything. https://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/days-daily-summaries-1990-1999-t14806-s150.html The construction company is "AJ Construction" (AJ = Adrienne+Justin).   Jencon Oil was building an oil refinery at the construction site.  This was adjacent to the park. Kirk Geiger played the character Chad Webster. The character Chad was an actor in the movie being made.   The child friend with Shawn-Douglas is his cousin Andrew Donovan. A few episodes prior, Andrew and Shawn-Douglas were at the park playing hide-and-seek. They wandered off where they shouldn't have gone, by slipping through the gate onto the construction site.  Shawn-D fell into the hole at the oil refinery. There were several episodes of trying to rescue Shawn-D.  Finally Carly rescued Shawn-D, but he was discovered to be deaf.  Andrew felt bad, but Bo and Shane both understood that it was an accident.  Carly later taught Shawn-D sign language. Shawn-D was played by Scott Groff. Andrew was played by Bradley Michael Pierce. pics here: https://web.archive.org/web/20070404163013/http://www.childrenofsalem.com/days/kids/shawnandrew/shawnandrew.html Larger context here: https://web.archive.org/web/20080614054207/http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/riverfrontraider.htmlhttps://web.archive.org/web/20080614054207/http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/riverfrontraider.html
    • I had a situation last week where I could watch the new episode on Paramount Plus on my laptop, but it wasn't even listed on my TV as an option.

    • I'm trying to think whether AW had anything remotely resembling that once Steve was killed off and Alice left a widow. So many young love stories were wrapped up either by marrying and leaving town or marrying and killing off one party. Maybe they acted in the final year as if Vicky and Jake had been that couple all along, but they both had better other mates along the way and also Jake was actively hostile to Vicky at too many points without any subtext of caring about her.
