I guess DAYS was too afraid to break up their one token black couple.
March 25, 20197 yr Member I never liked the Babe/Bianca baby switch storyline. Just couldn't get interested in it, probably cause Babe was just a horrible character and why should we care about her pain
March 25, 20197 yr Member The best I've seen was the Channing Capwell Jr./Brick Wallace switch on SB. The story came to a head in late 1985/early 1986. Clips can still be found on YT. Both the acting (especially by Richard Eden, Dame Judith Anderson, Nicolas Coster and Judith McConnell) and writing were superb.

They grow close and become best friends. At a cabin, while a storm goes on outside, Babe helps Bianca give birth to her baby daughter, Miranda Montgomery. Bianca falls unconscious and Babe leaves to go get help. She breaks into Dr. David Hayward's cabin and calls Paul at Llanview Hospital for help. The day before (on One Life to Live), Paul helped his sister, Kelly, give birth to a baby boy, but the baby died right after birth. Kelly, believing a baby would be the only thing that could save her marriage, begged her brother to get her a child. Paul helps Babe get back to the cabin, where he delivers her son by the fireplace. Paul seizes this opportunity to give his sister a baby in a storyline that becomes known as the baby switch. He drugs Babe, puts her in a helicopter, and stages a helicopter crash near a river in the forest. When Babe awakens, Paul tells her that the helicopter crashed and her baby is dead. She loses consciousness again. When Adam Chandler and JR arrive at the scene and threaten Paul, should anything bad have happened to their heir, Paul twists his story around and tells them that it was Bianca's baby that fell into the river and that Babe's child survived. JR's family is elated that Babe's baby is alive, but Bianca's family is devastated by the news. In Llanview, Paul gives Kelly Babe's son (later known as Adam Chandler III, then Little Adam, and currently AJ), telling her that the boy's mother was a poor homeless woman who did not want a baby. Later on, Babe finds out that the baby she thought was her own is really Miranda Montgomery, Bianca's baby who was thought to have died in the storm. Babe is so distraught over the reveal that her son has been the one to die in the storm that, with convincing by Krystal, she decides to keep the baby. But she eventually discovers her son to be alive, and that JR is indeed the biological father of the little boy. When the truth is finally revealed, it causes a severe rift in Babe and Bianca's friendship, although Bianca is more distant than hostile toward Babe. Babe's romantic relationship with JR also ends. That one was fantastic. I was so happy when Bianca got to slap Babe, as I hated her.

They took liberties with the timeline of Hope's pregnancy and times when she would've potentially been knocked up by Bo, John or Stefano, but that's okay since Bo was the father in the end. The babyswitch storyline itself provided great story for Bo, Hope (and Barb & Glen, though unimportant), Stefano, Lexie, Abe, etc. This was the story that tipped Lexie over from good girl to chip off daddy Stefano's block. I loved when Lexie became a bad girl. Desperately trying too prevent Zach's true parentage from being discovered. She became a worthy adversary and rival for Sami. During this time period Lexie was the most interesting she would ever be. Renee Jones really got to showcase her acting talent. Sadly this didn't last long. Poor Lexie became nice and bland. Stuck with Abe. But it was great while it lasted.

The conclusion was epic, the farmhouse fire, Sheila's presumed death, and her resurfacing on the Bold & the Beautiful. So many years of storyline stemmed from this! August 17, 20196 yr Member The Nelle/Brad switch on GH seems like a bust. I was thinking about that today. Where is that story?

KING! -- was touting the storyline in (I think) EW, I knew I had truly stepped into the Twilight Zone. The Jenny/Katrina story is my personal favorite storyline of ANY kind, because it illustrates beautifully how one simple act (Karen and Marco's decision to switch the babies) can impact an entire canvas. By the time Jenny returned Mary/Kristine to Katrina, just about everyone in Llanview seemed to have some investment in the storyline. That, to me, is soap opera at its' finest. But it was botched beyond belief. I don’t know why they bothered.
August 17, 20196 yr Member Just when you think the Wiley/Jonah one is done on GH, it keeps going (really seen once a week at best). I thought things were coming to a head when Shiloh figured out Willow had his baby and he was going to sit there all smirky in court and the paternity test results would be read and it would say he wasn't the father, Willow would realize something was off, etc, etc.

I can’t believe they messed it up that much. I put this all on Frank and his pet writers. That was one of the reasons why I made the “Who was worse for GH” thread. The fact this story crossed over onto another show and drove story there was amazing. I loved the fact that it didn't just get wrapped up nicely after Sheila left Y&R, I always assumed once the truth was out Lauren would have everything she wanted back, her son and Scott, but she no longer loved Scott and he wasn't sure their son would accept her as his mother, so Scott basically forced Lauren into a re-marriage which led to her subsequent affair with Brad, then Sheila using that to her gain, so she could blackmail Lauren into keeping quiet. The ramifications from this story didn't really wrap until Sheila's almost suicide in 1995 on B&B. That's 5 years of story across two shows, absolutely brilliant. Edited August 26, 20196 yr by will81
