They got ratioed to hell and back over that.

Okay, what exactly does "ratio" mean in this instance?  It means something bad, right?

Ratio means they get more comments than likes, so people are not happy about the tweet.

It feels like a really hacky open from SNL or Colbert. Embarrassing.

I'm going to go on ahead and admit that I don't read the NYT nearly as much as they used to for many reasons but their paywall has just irritated me into curtailing how much I read their articles.  I'll admit that I never actually had a paid subscription. Since about 1998/99 when NYT began to put their news online, I had an account and would get the headlines delivered to my inbox.  It worked for me, this way, for a good solid decade before changes began to gradually take effect. There was an allotment of articles 10 a day, which was eventually whittled to 5 day. And even then, with the use of the incognito browser function, that was a workaround (yes, I'm telling on myself) but recently, NYT closed that loophole.

I guess I'd feel worse about the sorry state of the NYT if they still allowed more access, and yeah, better reportage.

I've been wary of the NYT since they merrily took us to war in Iraq, and since one of their critics ghoulishly belittled Matthew Shepard's friends and supporters back when other hacks like Elizabeth Vargas were pushing a narrative about his murder not being a hate crime and how sorry we should feel for his murderers. But they've gone above and beyond lately.

Trump is wrong about 99.99999% of things, but he is right about how dangerous the media in this country is. Even now they are actively pushing their own egos and grudges above the well-being of us all. They truly do not care if we live or die. It's incredibly disturbing, and is only getting worse.

Wow, thankfully I missed that entire era of NYT.  I was in grad school and too busy to read 95% of their articles. I do remember the bitterness I felt at the decision to invade Iraq.  What I know of Elizabeth Vargas is mostly her personal struggles against alcoholism, I didn't realize that she was pushing such a vile narrative but I rarely watch 20/20.

I don't mean to begrudge Vargas for her struggles, and I know others at ABC were also involved, but the whole thing made me feel sick. This has been a longstanding narrative for the man who produced the 20/20 special and more recently wrote a book about Shepard's murder.

Michael S. Schmidt needs to STOP. TALKING.  In fact, everyone at the NYT needs to STOP. TALKING.  They just keep making things worse.  For everyone.
