A teenager by the name of Kalief Browder was sent to Rikers Island on suspicion of stealing a backpack. Browder languished for nearly three years without being formally charged.  Less than two years after his release, Browder committed suicide.

I just looked up his case.  He was only 16 and put in solitary.  Our system is really sick. His mother died while trying to change it.
