Seeing the trailers for Candice Bergin's "Book Club" movie, some of those situations her character gets into is exactly what I want to see from Murphy in terms of social media, webcams, snapchat, etc. lol. It can literally write itself.

I just wonder how burned out people might be on politics. I know the climate is the perfect one to bring this show back in but .... look at how much people whined when Roseanne and Will and Grace talked about politics in their first episode back (and Roseanne not once mentioned HIS name).

His wife?

I believe Phyllis is his sister. It's likely so they can still say "Phyl" (instead of "Phil") and have it be a bit of a nod and joke to the original Phil. I love it. I think they cast the perfect actress to play his sister. It was a pretty smart move I think.

In at least one episode, the one where Linda Ellerbee guest starred, Phil referred to a wife named Phyllis. FYI did a story saluting the bar, causing it to become a tourist hangout. Phil couldn't handle the notoriety and was impotent.

But yeah, Tyne is playing his sister. Maybe I have too many hangups, but marrying someone with the same name as your sister seems a bit off to me.

What do we make of the fact CBS gave the show a sandwich slot (9:30 Thursday), as opposed to making it an anchor? I think it was a refreshing sign they're going in with measured, realistic expectations.

I think it's well-placed.

I'll be shocked if it's a hit or lasts more than one season, but Roseanne shocked me too. I thought Roseanne would do okay but I didn't know it'd do that well. I'll just be happy to see the show again and see it standing for its values in 2018. And yeah, the promo was remarkably funny considering I found some of the old show - last I checked some years back - a bit creakier than I remembered. I'll have to see if it's on Hulu or somewhere and look at more old eps. Then again I last watched mostly the first season; I remember it being wickedly funny later on.

    • Above, I said "Vanessa needs to go to therapy to find ways to remain healthfully lusty and sex-positive, but to stay away from anyone who would demean her." Now adding onto that thought, I would clarify that sometimes I think Vanessa fools around for fun in a positive way.    But other times I sense that she's actually unconsciously trying to demean herself as way of numbing some inner pain -- it's hard to explain what I mean.  Sort of like... sometimes people drink for fun. But other times, people drink  in a self-destructive way, in order to drown out some inner pain. So I think she needs therapy about all of that.
    • A lot of these episodes are available on YT. The rape storyline starts around February or March of 1979 and Roger's demise is sometime in March 1980. The stuff from before 1979 is close to non exisitent, unfortunately.
    • Maeve Kinkead was on from 1980-1988 (left in January); 1989-2000 (went recurring 1996-97); 2002 -For Josh /Reva's Wedding; 2005 (appearances in May and December) back regularly from Feb 2006-end Maureen Garrett was on from 1976-80; 1988-2006 (recurring from 2003 on); 2009 Michael Zaslow was on/off from 1971-1980 with breaks in between but usually made an appearance every year then again 1989-1997. There is a youtube commercial  Guiding Light in 1968

    • Holly's final big story was the Sebastian mess in late 2004.   Vanessa and Matt were promoted to regulars near the end and were heavily recurring prior to that starting around 2007/2008.
    • Keith has a softer presence, but it would have helped to see him be more aggressive or proactive in protecting them instead of standing around like a mannequin. A man the audience should be hoping and wishing gets back together with his wife. Nicole needs a new husband!
    • She needs to learn to be honest with her husband about her lusty interests because being sex positive only works if you're not cheating on your spouse.

    • Very disappointed in the writers in the way they are screwing with Nicole, Ted,  and Kat to make Leslie remain viable. So many holes everywhere.
    • Somebody brought this up elsewhere which emphasizes why this NuTed appears as such a weakling. Why is Kat doing what HE should be doing? And that's everything he can to rid him and his family of this crazy woman. Kat is doing all kinds of things she shouldn't do but now I understand her more. She can't count on her father to eliminate this woman because he's a wimp. He's been too busy inviting her into his home and serving her drinks and offering her invitations to birthday parties. WIMP!!!!
