I thought jill was due back this month.

Listing everything happening...it tells me that Jill is still vital to the show...moreso then Jack or Victor.  Bill bell knew this hence why she was vital up till he retired in 1997/1998.  Then Kay Alden started the gradual shift to Victor and Jack only.

Sometimes a PM is in order instead of open chastisement.

I know...it ain't my business. And I'm horid for stiring the pot.

Don't worry. If you think the show is giving Hilary a concious or humanity, think again. I'm fairly certain we will find out she was playing Devon and working a different angle. She's never allowed to be sincere..ever.

She's lying. Wait for it...

You can't really be held responsible with the many Billy recasts.

You're fine.  I wasn't chastising her (I think she knows that and is why she chose not to respond), I was actually trying to help her out.  I thought about a PM, but the idea was she was dragged through the mud real quick-like openly in this thread.

Was I chastising the mud draggers?  You betcha.  Was that part of the motivation for posting rather than PMing?  I mean, yeah, kinda.

Y&R could write Victor out tomorrow and not much on the canvas would change.

In fact the only Newmans who are semi-relevant right now are Victoria, Reed (thanks to Mattie) & Abby (mainly because she's also an Abbott). The rest of them might as well be on the backburner.

However Jack & Jill are both fairly central to most of the current stories. It's ridiculous that Jess & Judith have to compete for airtime but that's the way sexism works.

Loving Y&R and B&B the writers are doing a great job. GH is still failing to me. I'm done with the mob. Bring Jason Q back and his brains. Loved the mob in the old days when it started but the show is less hospital than it should be now. The Godfather movies ended awhile ago.

^ Like many soap pairing Villy would have been better as a romance that didn't lead to marriage.  Soaps don't do longing very well anymore.  It's really a shame, but it seems clear to me that some focus groups convinced TPTB that people won't wait for payoff anymore. I can't think of another reason soaps rush to marriage and babies so often.

Soaps do the same with vixens too.

Bitchy female characters grow popular with the soap audience (usually at the expense of its heroines) & the writers quickly ignore their flaws to turn them into 'heroines' while the real heroines are hated and/or backburnered.

Most soaps use babies to cement couples now. As long as two characters share a kid they'll always be forced to interact.

That was never the issue.

I have no doubt that those who "dare" to point out her bullying tactics are quite repentant after your Very Important Contribution.

Indeed, I think I hear sobbing and gnashing of teeth from the peanut gallery as we speak.

I jest, I jest!

    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.
