The first episode was fine.

John Goodman seemed to be more vital than last season.

Still too many characters to deal with. Harris wasn't even on.

Wonder if Michael Fishman and Estelle Parsons will get one last appearance.

They could really spin off some of the characters eg Becky starting a new life in another city.

Harris and Mark living together.

The answer (spoiler):

Spoiler

It's already been confirmed neither Fishman nor Parsons are going to be making appearances during this last season.

I've only begun getting back to it recently on Netflix after Season 2, but I'm glad it had a long, solid run and got to go out on its own terms. I do wish Michael Fishman had appeared this season and hadn't been phased out.

It would have been a nice gesture for DJ to make an appearance but Fishman was no loss. Amongst those acting heavyweights his lack of comic timing and delivery was painful.

They had too many characters as it is, so eliminating DJs family was a no brainer.

They were wise to keep Jay Ferguson beyond his role as an early spoiler for Darlene and David, once it became clear Galecki was not going to return. Ferguson is such an amazing actor and very similar to Goodman, and was wonderful with Sara.

Agree, he fitted in so well. Pity he lost the beard though.

I just wish they had chemistry. They have none but he has it in spades with Lecy

The last scene felt genuine, especially between the core 4 (John, Laurie, Sara, and Lecy). They were saying goodnight/goodbye again to the characters, each other, and to the audience for one final time.

You can tell they really love one another and cherish what they created together - with and without the troubled Barr.

And I can appreciate that life goes on as normal for these characters and there was no forced development/event that forced them all to break apart and go their separate ways. It felt like they really cared about the audience’s attachment to these characters for the past 37 years.
