How much time do we give Sally Sussman before we ask for her firing?

Yeah, they look pretty dire. I'm just scared for the next person. I suppose they could go for Marlene McPherson. People seemed to like her on DAYS and AMC, but I'm not that familiar with her work.

If they go for a Higley type, I'll just go back to ignoring Y&R again.

McPherson was the classic example of the perils of overhype. Her DAYS was one of the worst-paced and most tin-eared HW stints I can remember. I will always remember it for Chandler Massey shouting 500 times in a row that Sami was a whore, Carrie and Rafe falling in love in about 3 episodes, and Jennifer shaming her husband for being held prisoner and tortured.

I'd previously (deliberately) ignored this thread as I didn't want to give credence to the notion that people wanted a head writer change so soon after her stories hit the air. At least 'so soon' at the point it was created.

And just for the sake of clarification, I definitely don't want her gone. The show more resembles the Y&R I loved and adored as a youngster than it has done in over a decade. And the examination of character and motivations (i.e the scenes in themselves) is fascinating. I feel the pieces are nearly in place in order to drive (actual) story going forward. My opinion, of course and I only speak for myself.

However, I must admit to being slightly concerned about how long Sally Sussman will be given with the loss of viewers, pre-emptions or otherwise.

If the networks listen as much as they appear to at times, and given what happened when they gave Maria Arena Bell, Hogan Sheffer, Scott Hamner, Jill Farren Phelps and Charles Pratt Jr more time than other soaps do, they may decide to take a more 'modern' approach and exercise their option to dismiss sooner than before.

What it also may do is raise the question of what type of soap/storytelling do viewers in 2017 want to see? It has said before that it may just be the fact that (any resemblance or attempt at) the Bill Bell style doesn't accord with with the tastes and attention span of the 'younger viewer'.

Sadly, for me, it would appear to be true. And if a change were to occur (and with it goes Kay Alden, et al) what does that leave Y&R with option-wise?

McPherson is pretty much Sally Sussman. Both promised big stories and both delivered nothing. McPherson's Days was so boring.

I didn't know she was the one in the HW position during that time.

    • Based on the preemptions above, I think I have figured out the one wrong item, and learned a new piece of history in doing the 1973 sleuthing! All of the preemptions matched except for 4 shows (Love of Life, Search for Tomorrow, Young and the Restless and Gambit) which each had one MORE preemption than expected. Checking on Watergate from 10/3/73 (since all 4 of those shows have that date list as the common one between them), there was a bomb threat called into the Watergate committee, which made the morning session get called off shortly after 11AM, and then after a bomb search, they started the afternoon session an hour earlier at 1PM. So, based on that, I am removing 10/3/73 as a preemption date for those 4 shows. CBS looks like they wrapped up commentary quickly after 11AM and aired the 4 shows (Love of Life would be a partial episode). (Although Vanderbilt does say they had commentary during that time, that does not look to be the case).   # of Preemptions 10/1/73-10/26/73: All My Children...0                        Another World...3            MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                      TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                      WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game As the World Turns...1    WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  Days of Our Lives...3      MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                     TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                     WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game Doctors...3                    MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                     TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                     WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game Edge of Night...1                  WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  General Hospital...0                Guiding Light...1            WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  Love of Life...2          THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                             TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference One Life to Live...0              Return to Peyton Place...4    MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                            TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                            WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game                                            THU 10/11/73 NBC 330-(onward) ALCS Game Search for Tomorrow...1      THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference  Secret Storm...2         WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate                                   THU 10/11/73 CBS 3-430PM CBS Daytime 90: Tiger on a Chain Somerset...4                        MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                            TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                             WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game                                             THU 10/11/73 NBC 330-(onward) ALCS Game Young and the Restless...1      THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference   Baffle...0 Brady Bunch...2     THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                             TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference Captain Kangaroo...0 Dinah's Place...0 Gambit...2              THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                               TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference Girl in My Life...0 Hollywood Squares...2  THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                                    TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference Jeopardy...1                  THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference Joker's Wild...1             WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  Let's Make a Deal...0 Love, American Style...0               Match Game '73...2            WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate                                          THU 10/11/73 CBS 3-430PM CBS Daytime 90: Tiger on a Chain Newlywed Game...0 Password...1                        THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference Price Is Right...2                         WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate                                           THU 10/11/73 CBS 3-430PM CBS Daytime 90: Tiger on a Chain Split Second...1                     THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference $10.000 Pyramid...1            WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  Three on a Match...0 Who, What or Where Game...0 Wizard of Odds...2       THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                                    TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference
    • @Paul Raven said: 1976 Pt 3 <snip> Victor, her words hitting upon him like tidal waves, pleads, “Dorian, don’t say any more,” as .he moves to the sofa, where he collapses, suffering a massive stroke. I remember watching a great deal of these scenes in all of your 1976 Pt 3. Amazing! And you are at the all time classic part of Dorian scheming against Victor.  Dorian was totally unsympathetic then, a true villain.
    • DEATH BY DEMOGRAPHICS IS `MURDER' MOST CRUEL That episode totally shaded CBS. Considering how CBS treated Angela Lansbury after all she did for CBS primetime, I don't blame her for reacting the way she did.
    • Do yourself a favor, don't google her blog.
    • @Errol there seems to be a malfunction in quoting that started happening a week or two ago.  PersonA posts something.  PersonB quotes PersonA and replies.  Then PersonC tries to quote what PersonB had quoted, and the *result* is that the original thing that PersonA said, becomes quoted as if had been originally said by PersonB. For example - PaulRaven posted on prior page this  (Link to PaulRaven original post) Then I myself janea4old quoted PaulRaven and replied  (Link.to.janea4old.quote.of.Paul.Raven.and.reply) Then @j swift tried to cite my PaulRaven quote, But the result was that PaulRaven's words were attributed to me janea4old. That happened above (Link to misattribution) Screencap of the glitch with misattribution of Paul's words to me:

*** Sorry everyone, I don't want to derail this thread, just wanted to post what happened on the page where it happened so that Errol could see it in context. J_swift is not to blame.  My theory is that this is a messageboard technical glitch.  I've seen this happen several times with various posters on various threads over the past week or two.  Quoted quotes being misattributed, and it happens with experienced posters who usually don't err in this way.  So I think there's a technical glitch in nested quoting.
    • This is Hayley's second mention of pregnancy in about as many months and it seems like she is trying to get pregnant to fully secure Bill. Her little weak read toward Chelsea was so off the mark because neither Chelsea or Naomi want Dani back with BIll, especially after the revelations of how he threatened Leslie. Anita and Tracy's talk ended up being productive after all. It seemed like she was just going to be Tracy out, but the idea of Tracy being the middle man to talk to Sharon is a great move. The constant mention of Dante Green makes me think he will show up at some point (Clifton Powell, Nathan Purdee, Darnell Williams are my list of preferred picks).

@JAS0N47 Thanks again for all your hard work in bringing this part of daytime history to us.
    • Any doubts about Nikki's business prowess at running Chancellor were forever extinguished by the scene that played at the entrance to the GCAC where Claire detailed to Kyle  how her grandmother took down a cocky young exec over  a real estate deal. Hayley Erin dug deep to channel Nikki's savvy business persona while Micheal Mealor remembered that the the best acting is reacting, as he stood wide eyed and open mouthed taking in Nikki's handling of the situation. We can only imagine Melody Thomas Scott's commanding performance as Nikki took center stage in Lady Boss mode and how the newbie actor playing her scene partner rose to the challenge as sparkling dialogue ricocheted back and forth. And a special shout out to Y&R's set designers who we sure would have created an office set that reflected Nikki's elegance and good taste. To viewers  bothered by  Y&R's continued business focus, this scene that dealt with power dynamics, sexism in business and privilege put paid to that criticism once and for all.
