Short-Lived / Long-Forgotten Shows That Deserve DVD Releases

I still remember really liking Safe Harbor on The WB there back in 1999 that had Rue McClanahan as the grandmother and a young Chyler Leigh as some barely legal junkie living with a family in a Florida motel. I think it was created by Brenda "Cookies" Hampton herself but the show was a lot less preachy like 7th Heaven was.

They've been mentioned here before, but soaps like SAVANNAH and FLAMINGO ROAD could easily be released. The most obvious choice, of course, would be MODELS, INC. with its one, long season. I always dream of Shout! releasing it, with a lovely package, option to watch the last episode with or without the additional ending, and whatever few extras they can scrounge up. There are several actors (Linda Gray, Emma Samms, Carrie Ann Moss, to name a few) that could promote it and be used as incentive to buy.

If I recall right, it was from all the cookies served up and eaten on a regular basis in the Camden household as well as episodes surrounding cookies. It was also a reflection of Hampton's personality that she gave off in interviews. After all, it was Hampton who wrote Mary Camden off after Mary committed a piggy bank heist!!

According to IMDB  she was on SB 1984-85, then on Rocky Road in 1985 for 13 episodes. She was replaced with Desiree Boschetti who played the part of Jessica 1985-1987.

Cable had several sitcoms on around that time like Safe At Home, Down To Earth, Throb, Check It Out, Sanchez Of Bel Air, The New Gidget

I used to watch Down to Earth on the Goodlife TV Network (also home to my beloved Flamingo Road), and it was such a cute and harmless show. I'd definitely watch it again if it turned up on Antenna (which, let's be honest, is the most likely home it would ever find today).

Goodlife TV aired a lot of good, short-lived/forgotten shows. Flamingo Road, The New Dick Van Dyke Show, Apple's Way, My Sister Sam, The Jimmy Stewart Show, One Big Family, Down to Earth, Finder of Lost Loves (another one I'd scoop up on DVD right away), The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, It's a Great Life, The Gallant Men, Twelve O'Clock High, The Courtship of Eddie's Father, and a few others I'm forgetting.

Now this is a show I used to watch as a kid. Here in Cleveland, our local independent station (WUAB 43) would show it on Saturday afternoons. This was the first show I saw Steve Burton in, before he was on GH. Of course, Donna Pescow would be on GH briefly herself (around 1999-2000), and before this was on AMC.

For some reason I never watched Out Of This World. I know Donna Pescow did that short lived series with Robert Hays (Airplane) called Angie 1979-1980.

I remember watching Small Wonder about Vicki the little robot girl. Dick Christie (Charlie on B&B) played the Dad. I also remember the syndicated version of 9 to 5 with Sally Struthers. Dorian Lopinto from The Doctors played her boss at one point.

Yes a lot of shows were syndicated like that back in the day. I remember when we had one of those old huge satellite dishes in the 80's there would be channels that would run blocks of shows.

I miss the days of the old WTBS (now TBS) and USA network. They had some awesome programming back then.

    • I'm not even sure why Zoe would care, even if they know each other offcamera.  I can't see Jean going, but if she is - good riddance at this point.
    • I just found the commercial on YouTube, with several other GL'ers doing the same commercial - how fun!

She did the same for me once Ghost Reva arrived (the anxiety and paranoia) - which is when the storyline for Rick/Annie started, with their Chicago past and her alcoholism. But before all that, when she was new and tending to Josh's broken leg, she was just normal, sweet and very cute/flirty.
    • I have to admit Annie exhausted me somewhat before she went nuts. So much anxiety. She and Robert were OK I guess. Didn't ever stick out much one way or the other.
    • I meant to ask in the May thread, but hey...it's not like it won't come up...   ...has our opinions of Jessica changed at this point? I know we debated at one point if she was sincere in her feelings for Ty or if she was in on his bullying. Now that a little more time has passed, what do we think?
    • Which is why I said...and continue to say mind you...that the designer is still trying to figure out what works for which character...highlight my points with particular characters. And as I also agree with you, too many misses. She has not found a clear, firm rhythm for me. Yet.   I also agree that BTG does a much better job. But I'll give credit where it's due.
    • I watch many episodes from the Vault, a secret source here on SON, because the quality is much better than YouTube. But, it has commercials that I have to skip through, although even these commercials give me serious nostalgia vibes. All that said, there is a consistent 1996 commercial for Excedrin with Frank Beatty!  He talks right into the camera about his feelings, and it's like Brent Lawrence never left. I wonder if GL fans back in the day ever saw this and had feelings about it.
    • Dukes of Hazzard had a good run when it moved to 8pm but even when that was failing ABC and NBC couldn't come up with a hit show to dominate  that timeslot. NBC sent The A Team, Knight Rider and Riptide there for their final seasons and CBS did the same with Scarecrow & Mrs King. Otherwise it was a barrage of new shows that never worked.
    • Agree. Much more miss than hit. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I thought clothing was supposed to be flattering. A lot of the Y&R women are seen in the tight solid color dresses ,often with cutouts/one shoulder. Now that may be a fashion but to have all of them in interchangeable dresses... Do the characters have a particular color pallette/style that is unique to them? BTG does a better job in that department. Some recent Y&R looks. I actually like the dress but we see that style too often.   Nikki's new look is not to my liking.
    • The first show I found had Maeve dressed horribly, and I just shook my head and thought she must've been thrilled to be portraying someone much more sophisticated and rich. Vanessa's hats and gloves probably cost more than her AW character's entire wardrobe.
    • It is the least aware sobriety memoir I've ever read. No spoilers, but where was the editor to ask what she learned from all the stories in her life?
