In the 70's Y&R hinted at Katherine being interested in Joann Curtis and viewers had a fit.

ATWT had the first character (Liz Talbot) die while falling up the stairs.

Bill Bauer on GL had the first heart transplant on daytime in 1968.

Dark Shadows was the first US soap to regularly air in off-net reruns and to be released on home video.

Wouldn't this be GL? I mean, even if we're only talking the TV series, Bert was the last original TV character when she passed away in 1985. Ed wasn't born onscreen until a few years after the TV premiere.

Thanks All My Shadows.I went through all the shows and somehow missed GL. So AW moves to 2nd place in that list.

First show to have no original cast members left would be Love of Life when Vanessa's mother played by Jane Rose was dropped from the cast in 1960.All other cast had been replaced or written off.

Was ATWT's Lisa the first true daytime vixen? Many came after but I've never heard of one before.

OLTL- Was Ellen Holly the first leading actress of color on a soap? And was her kiss when viewers thought she was not black the first interracial kiss on daytime?

I guess in the 50's there were troublemakers - Meg on Love of Life for instance but Lisa really caught the public's attention as ATWT was the #1 soap. Also,Eileen Fulton enjoyed and exploited the attention and publicity.

Re Ellen Holly. The first show to have a black actress on contract was AW in 1965 with Micki Grant as Peggy but she was supporting,so Ellen/Carla was definitely the first lead character.

Yes, I don't know about the other soaps but General Hospital did several marital rape storylines before Roger and Holly, usually these resulted in pregnancy, with (correct me if I am wrong as I did not view these stories myself) the resulting pregnancy drama tending to overshadow the effects of the rape itself.

The significance of Roger and Holly's marital rape storyline was I think not the actual rape itself but that this was the first time a wife actually pressed charges against her husband for rape.

Another marital rape was on ATWT when John raped Kim.

Yes,Roger and Holly was groundbreaking with Holly pressing charges. This was inspired by a landmark real life marital rape case in 1978 between John and Greta Rideout.

There was a TV movie on the case with Linda Hamilton and Mickey Rourke.

First LA soap Full Circle 1960

First soaps to expand from 15 to 30 mins Love of Life and Secret Storm 1958

Was the cross over between Guiding Light and "The Cradle Will Fall" (1983) TV Movie the first and only one of its kind?

Is ATWT the first to show two men kissing?

Days The Two Romans - Was this ever done before?

    • A--I wish someone would post a better vid of the entire ball, as it must be out there. And B--nope. Evie is only in a small segment of the ball with Phillip, Rick and Mindy. She doesn't dance at all. Ross dances with Helena and Amanda. I'm not even sure why Evie is at the ball---Vanessa heartily disliked her. I did see that Billy actually asked Henry to introduce him to Vanessa, which I hadn't realized.
    • Honestly, they should've ordered more of 2000 Malibu Road for the 1992-93 midseason and aired it when Knots went on a break. That was probably their best shot.    Then of course they fumbled Central Park West by airing it in the 9PM slot instead of a 10PM slot where it would've been away from the Fox dramas. CPW got its best rating by airing randomly on a Sunday and when it was taken off the air for a "re-tooling", Party of Five's ratings actually had a spike, so clearly they were feeding off each other. But being a smaller network focused on a certain demographic, Fox could afford to be patient Party of Five, CBS couldn't...
    • Agree on Bruce Gray as Owen; they needed to cast star power. He was too lightweight against Kim and he had no chemistry with Frances Fischer except more gay buddy or daddy figure.  I loved Nola and Eliot together though. Lee Godart should have been longer term.
    • Andre has the worst fashion of the males which is off putting for someone as fine as he is. His jackets and sweaters look dated and no vintage does not work for him
    • I don’t recall MSW having a toy line in the late 80’s or early 90’s like all those Saturday morning cartoons did LOL but thought this was cute when I saw it in a vintage toy store yesterday:

    • Copying and pasting pasting this here as to not to derail the KL thread lol Wow I forgot CBS actually did try multiple attempts to come up with a soapy replacement for Knots on Thursday nights in the 10/9 slots for the 93-94 season.   Angel Falls had promise but CBS didn’t give it a fair chance. Latham’s Second Chances got even worse ratings than Angel Falls and wasn’t given a second chance when the Northridge quake destroyed the show’s sets. One West Waikiki looked gorgeous but was a blink you missed it affair. Finally we got Hotel Malibu, a quasi follow-up to Second Chances that stayed as the summer replacement series it was. CBS switched gears and had Chicago Hope air in the slot…against ER. It made the Top 30 but obviously underperformed below expectations. CBS gave up, and gave us 48 Hours for years there. It wasn’t until the 2002-03 season when CBS finally produced a Top 20 show for that spot with Without A Trace against an aging ER.
    • Of course I join in on wishing that Peacock & Corday & Sony would all together come to the conclusion that NOW would be a fine time to put some of these gems in the archive on full display!!! But, at the same time I'd like to give kudos to the fact that behind the scenes they've been doing the great work of preservation by taking tapes, etc. & converting them to modern digital formats. Besides the important fact of preserving them it means they are ready to go!
