The SON baby

  • Members

Just a little thread to keep the people interested informed about the SON baby. :-) I'm 13 weeks along and due on April 8th. I had the new genetic testing (MaterniT21) done because I'm over 35. It's just a simple blood draw, that's less invasive than an amnio. Luckily, is well on that front.

You can also find out the gender of the baby with this new test. I'm having a boy. I'm a little nervous about that, since I guess being a woman I just feel like I have more of a sense of how to parent a girl, but I guess I'll figure it out.

Thanks to the people who've asked about how I'm feeling and who have wished us well. I really appreciate it. I'm feeling pretty good now that I'm out of the first trimester. Still a little tired, but I was lucky and didn't have terrible morning sickness. Mostly what I'm hoping for is things to stay uneventful for the next six months.

If anyone has name ideas, I'm open to suggestions. Right now, Elijah is in the running.

Wow, I'm really touched by the sense of community in this thread. Thank you for sharing with us Julia. I also had the cord wrapped around my neck but I think I turned out wetty prell.

Just a little update. The baby is doing well. He lost about 11 ounces in the hospital, which is pretty normal. They want his weight back up to his birth weight by 2 weeks. At his pediatric appointment yesterday we found out he only has two ounces left to go, so that's a relief!

Julia, I am so happy for you and your baby but I am sorry you had an unhappy and stressful labor. I guess the best would be sitcom style stress and whatnot leading to the big moment, and I hate the fact yours wasn't like that and you were crying.

Thankfully all that is over and you have a little GH fan to take care of! Post when you can,

Thanks Q! By the time I had him I was very calm. The anesthesiologist was really amazing. Not only was I feeling no pain, but I was calm and mentally present. I've always had a lot of respect for the people in the medical field and this experience just solidifies that.

All My Shadows:

Did we ever determine a name for the whipper snapper?

My husband changed his mind about the name Benjamin, which I really loved. He has a bee in his bonnet over Benjamin Netanyahu though and there was no changing his mind, so the baby's name is Nathaniel Mark. And even though I'm not religious the meaning "given by God" feels right under the circumstances.

Me too. Everyone's support means more than you can imagine.

So when can you start having sweets again? You were a good girl for months so I hope there's at least some cupcakes or a Snickers bar in your future.

Aww, since I know you aren't really a people lover, this means a lot Chit. Thank you.

Yes, I can eat sweets again. My doctor wants me to stay on the GD diet, but only as a way to lose weight. The stakes are much lower at this point. I celebrated with a Reese's peanut butter egg. LOL! Sodium is the issue now. Not to give TMI, but my legs are super swollen right now, which can be normal, but this is not. I went to the doctor today and I took great pleasure in showing the nurse my legs after she made clear she thought I was wasting their time. Her reaction was "Oh Wow! You were right to come in. I've never seen anything like that.". laugh.png

I like the name "Nathaniel," too. Of course, yours is the SON Baby, so when he grows up (which will be, like, a year in soap opera time) he'll want something "edgier," like "Nick."

Nate is a nice nickname if he wants one. Let's hope he's creative, like Nathaniel Hawthorne of Scarlet Letter fame. We already know he's strong, and adorable. Enjoy him every day,my dear...tongue.pngtongue.png Even when he's cryingbiggrin.pngbiggrin.png

Happy to hear the baby suffered no ill effects from his dramatic arrival. Little boys are so much fun. I wish my two were still smaller. (Maybe not in diapers, but young enough to still enjoy hugs from their mama). Treasure these days. There is absolutely nothing in life more joyous.
