I was over the moon when i head Donna Mills was joining the show and was salivating at the idea of abby ewing scheaming against tracy Q or sharing a scene or two with Monica since DM and LC used to play sisters on Love is a many blabalabla (damn the name of that show was long).

You can only imagine how disapointed i was that rc and fv could only come up with that regurgitated vomit that played out.

But in no way shape or form can i blame DM for that mess. I actually thought she managed to bring some sense of dignity to such a badly written character.

I think i even caught her once or twice asking herself How do i act that out? On screen. Yet even when her character turned out to be the killer I found myself sympathizing with her instead of the "rootworthy" SiAm.

And i actually want Maddie back for a Nina vs Maddie showdown.

I know i know its a rule that we must syystematically hate on every newbie and even more so on Rc's pet newbies but I really like Nina for obscure reasons I will go over with my therapist :D

You definitely don't have to systematically hate on every newbie. There have been newbies I've liked right from the start, though I think the last one was quite a while ago.

While my motto is to never give a newbie a chance on THIS GH, I like Britta, Ava (too propped, however) and Jordan. None of the men work for me at all!

i think i only broke my give the newbie at least three weeks before hating them for Sabrina.

I hated that bitch after three minutes.

I want a scene of Levi telling Patrick that it's not unfair that Gabriel is worm food and that him dying was writting in the cosmos, and Patrick punching him in the face.

Watch what you wish for. A mass purge would only rid the show of the remaining long standing characters.

True. OTOH, those remaining, long-standing characters have become so damaged, it'd almost be like mercy killings.

I saw on Twitter that RC was "crying" over those scenes.

I'm sure he was. Just as I'm sure he was crying at the end of "Yentl."

Where the [!@#$%^&*] is that nurse?

They're waiting for another actress to leave Y&R before they cast her.

I do pity the actors, though I understand some blame is on them. However the current lack of, apparently virtually ANY rehearsal time and Frank Valentini's production schedule which granted, may be the only way to do these shows on budget but apparently, according to that book on One Life to Live and its last days, is VERY confusing to the actors with scenes being filmed weeks apart--I know one actor said he couldn't even remember who the funeral they were taping was for because nobody had died yet--doesn't help. Then add to that the writing where nearly all the key character arc moments actors can use to build are played off camera, oh and the fact a certain producer likes to hire younger actors/models with zero acting experience, and it's clear why even the stronger actors are falling more and more on lazy habits or phoning it in.

Exactly.

I wouldn't say Donna Mills belongs in the same category with Elizabeth Hubbard or Beverlee McKinsey, but she is the kind of actress who can grab your attention if the writing and preparation are there. IMO, GH had with her someone who would have shone in scenes with their vets. But I keep forgetting just who is in charge these days, don't I?

I just love reading your posts! When it comes to the budget, I get confused. How do you justify so many new hires? Yes many of them are dirt cheap but some of the vets took significant pay cuts. Instead of adding to the cast, use the existing cast to tell the stories and romances onscreen.

Although moRon says Geary is mistaken about bonus incentive for new characters, how else do you explain this morbidly obese cast? Is all the casting an admission of being no talents? I'd really like to know.

AFAIK, half the cast is recurring. That's part of it.

They (allegedly) tried to get Genie to either take a massive cut or join the Lucy/Scott/Felicia/Kevin, etc. recurring corps. She said no, and rightly so given her place in history. This is also what I feel got them on Tristan Rogers. They wouldn't give him a contract or firm dates, so he took a job somewhere that would.

Couldn't the same be said of most actors? Other than the ones that, you know, are just in the wrong profession. I see the bolded so many times in defense of actors who have done something great at some point in the past but are either phoning it in or not passing muster now...or are maybe just getting by, that the writing is letting them down, but I see actors too with terrible writing who try to do things that make it better.

Either way, I think it's okay to treat actors as if they are fallible human beings. Cause they are.

Generally, no. Only certain actors stand out. There's a reason most actors rarely work.

On this show in particular, most of the cast will never stand out no matter what material they are given.

Don't we all generally argue about who the actors that stand out are though, and doesn't it counteract that argument somewhat?
