Another one? Weren't her first two flops? She's better off staying in her niche - the mind games she plays with scared young girls on ANTM.

This could mean bye-bye GH. They better pray what is put in Katie's time slot this fall doesn't take off because if it does, Tyra will probably take the 2 pm slot in the fall of 2015.

I actually liked the Tyra Show as she followed in the footsteps of Donahue, Oprah, Sally, etc., she addressed social issues. In all honesty, I think she got cancelled (after a 5 season run, which better than most of these hosts nowadays) because society was becoming pop culture heavy and preferred talk shows that addressed them constantly (i.e. The View). I feel like now that people are growing tired of shows like that, they'll be more receptive to Tyra's show if she comes back with the same format. She better not come back like Ricki Lake, who should've stuck with her original format, and come back with a lifestyle type talk show. It'll fail instantly.

Tyra girl, we want social issues and messiness! Bring it on! tongue.png

Not yet, but it certainly gets ABC closer to their goal. If Tyra is successful, then this clears the way to looking for the GH replacement they need. A successful Tyra only says "you're halfway there".

She has another besides the one from 2005-2010?

I liked her show when she addressed racial issues and others facets of society. She did tend to over talk her guests and try to one up them.

I thought she had one around 2000 or 2002. I might be mistaking her with someone else.

I remember things like, "I want to be straight!" and "I'm only gay because I get paid money!" and other Jenny Jones-esque trash. I guess if she wants to go back to that it would fill some niche not around in talk today, but the description sounds like more lifestyle tips. I'm not sure those are her strong suit.

This is the kind of stuff daytime talk shows do best, IMO. The really good ones took seemingly sensational topics like that and really got to the emotional core of them, whether or not there was ever any real resolution. The Tyra Show did it well.

I think those types of shows became self-parody and you could kind of see the acting, but they do have a fanbase, as Dr. Phil (unfortunately) proves.

I wish we could see a brand new type of talk show, but I know that won't happen.

The best I can settle for at this point is this isn't yet another talk show that tells us how real parents don't vaccinate their children.

There was a talk show hosted by a young, black woman during that time. Her name was Ananda Lewis. That may be what you were thinking of.

Random fact, I was watching the series debut of Ananda Lewis from my college dorm room when it got preempted to show the World Trade Center go down from the 911 attacks

    • Yikes -a Cane/Phyllis sex scene. Why was there no warning before this episode aired? And of course Phyllis had sex with her bra on.  Had to laugh when Cane, trying to think of Phyllis' password to sneak into her laptop, talks out loud so we (and she) can be clued into what's happening. What is Phyllis' financial standing? At one point she was wealthy enough to run a hotel-which she gave up in an instant(can't remember why-some inane reason) Now she's scrounging around for a job with Cane. The many residents of the GCAC who are living in hotel rooms don't seem to do anything to personalize their space-no photos, books etc. The GCAC must have a strict policy on that. Nikki did look good today. Still find her hairstyle a little dowdy though.
    • Then 87 is the year you're looking for. Vanessa leaves town in Jan 88. When I saw Jenny counseling Dinah about George making the pass at her, all I could think was that Van would be pissed Ross' latest fling was advising her daughter. Cop or not.
    • As much as I hate Phyllis, seeing Billy Flynn in those boxers briefs in today's episode, has me almost tolerating her. BF looks

    • Dear sweet June, you'll get it right eventually.  In the meantime it's a good chuckle.

    • Damn, Leslie went in on Shanice... poor girl! Leslie really can't handle stress or certain emotions well, she lashes out. I also think it's weird she wants to know so many details about Eva's love/sex life. Vernon was sweet to June. It was nice (realistic) to see a customer complain to her though while she's still trying to establish herself. I'll be that guy, but for me personally, my enthusiam/excitement over the show has stalled yet again over the last couple weeks. For the majority, it seems like we're in a holding pattern until Winterfest. It's like they don't want to rock the boat or do much until then, which leaves us in a quiet period here. Are sweeps a thing still these days? Seems odd that we're having a slow November. That ending was good, but I saw that coming... in theory it should have a quick resolution, but I'm guessing Leslie will expose it at Winterfest and it'll get throw out of proportion haha.
    • Yes. Why? I don't really care. Vanessa is also acting dumb, trying to run between tables, on a date with Ross in one room and a business meeting with Alan in another.  One of the few times Van is written as less than the smart woman she was.
    • I've been specifically looking for the episodes for Ross and Van together, because they essentially both raise Dinah at that period and the recaps around her typically avoid the Dorie years, the carnies, or Alan-Michael and Cam. I'm really just trying to trace a throughline between Paige, Wendy, and Gina. The last two are "easy," but it just messes with my timeline when Dinah thinks Alan-Michael would kill Ross. Then again, that Alan-Michael slept with his own stepdaughter, so...
    • Anyway...they literally mentioned the secret room today on Days and yes, this show needs a Kristen lesbian story lol.
    • Yes, they did a 'premiere' of Maggie's death episodes at the ArcLight theatre in Los Angeles, arguably then the nicest movie theatre chain in the USA. Plus, Suzanne and Deidre were in a ton of scenes together during this time. Whatever happened between them happened after 2004.
    • There are episodes with Jenny (Mary Ellen Stuart) that she was in pre-writers strike.. and I know that she lasts until at least August 1988. It's a shame that the show didn't try pairing her with Rusty since the two had more chemistry than she had with Ross and that he had with Rose.
