I think in some ways it would have made more sense for Hakeem to be one of the older brothers. Both Andre and Jamal sound like they are well educated. Strange that Hakeem doesn't sound like he went to some fancy private high school as well. Even if they had him putting on the rap persona, while having that privileged upbringing underneath it would seem more realistic to me. I suspect they wanted to give the youngest child the mommy issues and that wouldn't work with making him gay too? Then from that it follows that the youngest would have to be the rapper who has Lucious approval, while Jamal is more on the R&B side and needing Cookie more. I don't know.

Anyway, I'm a little more team Jamal than team Hakeem, but I can like them both. It's just that I'm a little too old to really relate to Hakeem as anything other than a child. He really does remind me of Justin Bieber, in a way. All I see is a baby, while all these women are draped over him and I'm like really? Eww! Not because he isn't cute, but because he's so young.

About the interesting idea that Juliajms brought up about why Hakeem seems to talk differently from his older brothers:

I think that Andre and Jamal are old enough to remember when the family was not wealthy so perhaps education was considered more important for the kids back then. Also, Cookie went to prison when Hakeem was an infant. Perhaps she was the one who insisted on the education and since she wasn't around...and perhaps Lucious didn't really think it was necessary for Hakeem, knowing he had already built a fortune and that Hakeem would be a rapper? JMO

Maybe it's like the Hilton Sisters. They knew their fortunes were already made so they didn't really continue on with their education after secondary school. You'd be surprised at what a short amount of formal education they have. During the recession, I've even heard people claim that college is overrated. Not everyone prizes a formal education.

I agree with this. Hakeem didn't grow up around Cookie's influence and the way she hit him for disrespecting her, I'd say that she was more focused on them having values and goals. Lucious is the prototype for the parent that believes that providing monetarily is all a parent needs to do.

Not speaking "The Queen's English" doesn't make one "uneducated".

Hakeem is a classic underachiever who isn't motivated because he doesn't have to be which (a trait he & Jamal shared until very recently).

The reason he speaks different than his brothers (but not unlike his parents & Uncle Vernon) is because they're in situations where they are expected to code switch & he isn't.

I don't see any difference in how either brother speaks. All their subjects/verbs and pronouns/antecedents agree. They all use the correct tenses.

I must say that I'm somewhat offended by the phrase "sound well educated". I won't get into why because I am not in the mood to have a discussion about dialect and race today. And yes, I'm southern.

    • Bloodshed is inevitable now. It’s another reason I’m glad Black people aren’t getting involved in these protests. As awful as this is, I keep reminding myself that 54 percent of Latino men voted for Trump. These people were put in harm’s way by members of their own communities and sometimes even members of their own families. Too many people decided to touch the stove.
    • Maybe I'm still in denial, but nothing about Neighbours' ongoing social media output gives the vibe of a show that's ending. In today's 'Roundup' video, Alan Fletcher referenced that production finishes in five weeks, but in all the show's posts the cast are as jovial and lighthearted as ever. Remarkably so for people who are about to lose their jobs.    Perhaps they're just putting a brave face on things, and I know they approached the previous axing with a positive attitude. Maybe putting an upbeat face on things is a collective way of showing potential backers that there's still life in the show? Or is it possible that they already know the show has been saved, and we'll get an announcement next month when filming wraps and the show 'rests'?   Does any of that make sense?!
    • A very good week for male eye candy on GH. New Michael is beautiful, Curtis's arms looked great in that polo shirt, Cody looks even more handsome with his new haircut AND we got Marco in swim shorts rocking his lovely bod and chest fur.

    • Yeah when Jamey Giddens did breakdowns for DAYS, he would sometimes state in tweets that specific things were his idea that he had pitched to Ron.
    • I don't, since they've clearly incorporated them into Tomas' storyline, and I happen to like his tattoos, but his jackets not fitting doesn't mean they're trying to cover his tattoos. The clothing overall isn't the issue; it's the fit. And I expect(ed) more from Jeresa Featherstone and her team. Very disappointed. He's the only male, overall, whose costume irritates me.
    • "And OMG, watching the scenes of Roger's return in comparison...the quality in the writing really nosedived. The stupid mask." Very much agreed.  Having Roger hide behind a mask for weeks/months, with it culminating with him swinging in on a vine at Blake/Phillip's wedding....geez.  So juvenile. IMO, Guiding Light never did a good job reintroducing major characters, either from the dead or elsewhere.  Masked balls = awful.  Amish = awful. When Reva was brought back from the dead, she should've just showed up in Springfield as Reva, and informed everyone that she had been gone for years because she felt like it.  She had a four-year fling with some dude who ended up dumping her due to disloyalty. Josh would be pissed and declare that their love is not *always* but *sometimes* and he'd act accordingly.  Her kids would hate her.
    • Agreed. The Emmys next year are gonna be a pretty tough competition and I hope we get a Days sweep lol  Not only does Deidre deserve a nomination for these last few weeks, but I also think Paul Telfer, Raven Bowens, Carson Boatman, Dan Feuerriegel and Alison Sweeney have good chances as well.
    • It’s not about a lack of faith and trust in MVJ, it’s about a a lack of faith and trust in Ron Carlivati, who I think can be very sneaky and manipulative when he wants to be.  And, all that “He’s just a breakdown writer” talk never changed my mind about anything, because at Days, it was “just a breakdown writer” that gave us some of the worst episodes I’ve ever seen.
