Looking back, I've underestimated what a phenomenon AMC was back in the 80s. I'd say it's more consistent ratings wise compared to any other soap on ABC at the time, that includes GH.

Very true. AMC is very underrated when compared to GH. AMC was higher rated than GH from 1975 through 1979. AMC hit number 1 in the weekly ratings in 1973. AMC was a phenomenon for a long time. GH got all the attention because of Luke and Laura. AMC also had toougher competition in its time slot than GH.

TPIR 1...6.8 rating, 28 share, 5,770,000 viewers
TPIR 2...8.5 rating, 34 share, 7,220,000 viewers

11/19/84-11/23/84:
TPIR 1...6.4 rating, 25 share, 5,430,000 viewers
TPIR 2...7.8 rating, 30 share, 6,620,000 viewers

12/31/84-1/4/85 - SFT's highest rating yet at NBC. LOV ties their series high.

Unfortunately, the RH/LOV timeslot move is clearly a big bust, even at this point. Though LOV is moving upwards slightly, it's hardly improved on the previous year's numbers, and RH has tanked. I forget what was in LOV's old 11:30 timeslot at this point, and how were they doing.

Top tier: General Hospital, All My Children, Y&R

Mid tier: Guiding Light, As the World Turns, Days, One Life to Live

Bottom Tier: Capitol, Another World, Loving, Santa Barbara, Ryan's Hope, Search for Tomorrow

Spring 1985 some good stuff is coming up on Y&R: Ashley parentage reveal, the beginning of the eternal quadrangle. Also we'll start seeing Brenda Dickson becoming way too extra.
