If I remember correctly, after the movie ended at 10:50 p.m., the last 10 minutes featured Dorothy Lyman from All My Children giving a preview of Loving.

I checked the rest of that fast national week, since they don't have them in nightly chart form like the usual books. Whatever aired from 1050-11PM was considered "sustaining" and did not get a rating. If it had aired in any of the other 48 weeks of "normal" ratings it would have listed that program somewhere in the book. But the fast nationals are only a few pages and just the bare minimum of info.

Thanks for figuring out what aired for those 10 minutes, because the Nielsen book left me wondering!

I had watched the movie back in 1983 and remember Dorothy's preview. Here's a video of the segment with Dorothy followed by most of the first episode of the serial.

Thanks, I just checked the timings of it, and the recording cuts off a little early, but if it hadn't, it would have filled the full 10 minutes, so that's why it wasn't rated. There were no ads during it.

That intro date seems to be the most reported.

1980 was CBS's year of the villain.

February 1, 1980 As the World Turns introduces James Stenbeck as their new villain.

February 8, 1980 Y&R introduces Victor Newman as their new villain.

April 1, 1980 GL Roger fall off the cliff in Santo Domingo.

Do you know what March 5-7, 1979 is? 2 o'clock bonanza

Betsy and Steve's wedding in May 84 will turn out to be. I know there's the much repeated 20 million, but there's also much doubt surrounding that figure.

Doug & Julie's first was supposedly 16 million, 1976,

Then Luke & Laura 30 million.

I'm interested in the ATWT wedding figure also.

Another big wedding: April 13, 1984 Y&R Victor and Nikki. Y&R rating that week (April 9-13, 1984) was posted earlier in the thread, 7.9/31, but I don't know where Y&R finished among the soaps that week.

In it's second week on air Loving dropped from a 4.9/18 share to a 3.9/10

So the Primetime exposure helped get some eyeballs but viewers didn't hang around.

That 11.30 am timeslot was no help.

Loving hovered around 3.5-3.8 over the following months.

I watched the clip you posted. Some good stuff. I am curious what the numbers for Betsy and Steve's wedding in May 84 will turn out to be. I know there's the much repeated 20 million, but there's also much doubt surrounding that figure.

Just FYI, Jason already posted the numbers for Steve & Betsy's wedding. They are at the bottom of page 46 of this thread.

Thanks for pointing that out. Seems very unlikely that this 20 million figure is accurate with a 7.8/31. Unless the other days were really low rating, there's no way the week would have averaged pretty much where ATWT is currently rating for the weeks above in March 83. I wonder the source of this "fact" because it's been repeated countless times and in many publications.

I think it's one of those "old wives' tales" that's been handed down erroneously over the years.  The ratings for that week don't support viewership of "20 million" on the wedding day.
