He didn't recognize him, but when some man says he is Sam's father (who happens to be Lucas' father as well), common sense kicks in.

I hope they explore that relationship

well in two episodes we've already seen them explore these two as siblings, more than they ever did with Carly and Lucas so that could be a sign of good things
