Members MissLlanviewPA
I have an obsession with baby names, so this article is manna in the desert for me: http://jezebel.com/map-sixty-years-of-the-most-popular-names-for-girls-s-1443501909 My name is Mary, so it's kind of funny/cool to see a map of the US almost completely covered in my name. I was born in 1989, though, so by that time it wasn't so common. OTOH, seeing the name Jennifer on those 70s' maps repeatedly...Holy Christ. Members quartermainefan
Who is Sophia? Is that from some book or movie that inspired everybody? I do know in school we had a ton of Lisas. Anyway, this map is interesting because it shows you how boring most parents are.
Members JackPeyton
Sophia is the name of one of the daughters on the first teen mom from 2009. The name does pop up out of nowhere in 2010. I'm sure it's from something else I just can't think of any Sophia around that time in anything. Members DRW50
Maybe there are a lot of Sophia Bush fans out there.
Members MissLlanviewPA
I guess Golden Girls reruns could have done it. Ironic, given that Sophia belonged to the oldest one.
Members allmc2008
Wow!! Its like the name Jennifer blew up or something. I heard that Lisa from ATWT is responsbile from the popularity of Lisa as a mainstream name. Same with Jennifer from Love Story.
Members alphanguy74
This just goes to show how people copy everybody else. My grandparents generation had names that were popular at the time as well, Ethel, Inez, Adaline.
Members juppiter
There is now a boys' version: http://jezebel.com/map-six-decades-of-the-most-popular-names-for-boys-st-1450787771 Michael dominated even longer than Jennifer. I do know a million Michaels, and it's my brother's name and my middle name. tbh the trendy boys' names are less annoying than the trendy girls' names to me for some reason. Members AlexElizabeth
Alex - There are 185,375 people in the U.S. with the first name Alex. 98.29 percent of people with the first name Alex are male. I find that very hard to believe. Alexandria - 22,182 Last name - 47,250 Alexandria + last name - 3 people. Yay! I'm soooo unique!
Members juppiter
I don't think it's accurate because it says there is only 1 person in the U.S. with my exact name but a simple google search reveals at least 1 other.
