Members Chris B
Well that's your opinion, but I don't view it that way. There has been a clear evolution to characters like Brooke, Stephanie, Steffy, Katie and Hope, just focusing on more of the current characters. I think B&B is great. It's not perfect, but B&B is a unique, strange little show that always keeps me entertained.
Members EastMA2
I happen to LOVE Jill Farren Phelps. Like Jill, I couldn't care less what people think. The numbers speak.
Members Chris B
The numbers speak? Did you see the numbers at GH? Her numbers at Hollywood Heights? Y&R hasn't been a slam dunk either...
Members allmc2008
I can understand that you like JFP because she speaks her mind like so many before her such as Irna Phillips and Gloria Monty but the thing is that Daytime is big on tradition and JFP doesn't like tradition. You have to respect your core audience regardless of ratings.
Members frequentsoapfan
Sony moved ED over to DAYS to help that show. She really wasnt doing anything on Y&R. And when was SN ever a major player on Y&R? He was on for a few years playing a retcon child and they chem tested Tucker and Jill and it was a bust. As for B&B, that show has less running time then Y&R, has the advantage of being filmed in the same city the show is set in, and it still manages to come up one dimensional. That show should be so much better than it currently is. I watch a couple of times a month now. People talk about Y&R being repetetive but it feels like B&B has been playing out the same story every day for 3 years now.
Members frequentsoapfan
Hollywood Heights is not comparable to GH or Y&R. It was not on network tv as a daytime soap it was on cable on a channel where people the audience was not used to that format and it ended up switching channels halfway through its run. Sony was probably able to get it's money's worth out of the show since they ran it internationally.
Members Chris B
I know Hollywood Heights is not the same, but I feel it could've been fine if the show was decent. It was heavily promoted in the beginning and people tuned in, but it was painfully written. They wasted a perfectly good cast.
Members LindaTNo1
She got run out of GH and HH only lasted how long now? I agree that Y&R is NOT a slam dunk either.
Members frequentsoapfan
HH had a set running time from the start.
Members JONNYSBRO
Jill was at GH for 11 years that's a long run and she won four Emmys lol. How many executive producers have 11 year runs? She was at abc daytime 15 years when people wanted to fire her back in the late 90s she kept getting promoted lol. Jill has made it 40 years in biz for a reason. Nobody has more exec producing experience then she does
Members SOAPSFOREVER
She may have been in the business 40 years, but they've hardly been blazingly brilliant years. Her track record is spotty at best. She's presided over the dismantling and ultimate slide toward destruction of several soaps. Furthermore, to bring up her tenure at GH is laughable. Is she good at producing Emmy submission episodes? Yes. She perfected it at Santa Barbara (using three to four days to shoot a single submission episode, instead of shooting the episode in a day as soaps traditionally did at the time). But with Bob Guza's help, she turned GH into a dark, unappealing venue for her pet actors, including Steve Burton, driving the ratings farther and farther down. It's virtually the same with every soap she's helmed. Is she single-handedly, one hundred precent responsible? No. Soaps are a collaborative effort. But she generally seems to misread the problems with the shows she's in charge of. The latest case in point: Y&R. Changing sets, music and wardrobe wasn't the problem at Y&R. The need for Steve Burton wasn't the problem. Or any of the other questionable moves she's made as EP. The problem was the writing. It's still the writing. JG is incapable of plotting the show solo. He needs a strong co-head (or co-heads) who knows the show, it's history and what makes Y&R unique among all the other soaps. Undoubtedly, Jill will throw him under the bus, drag some mediocre writer she's worked with in the past who's loyal to her, and promote them to HW. But the problem will still be there, and unfortunately for diehard Y&R fans so will Jill because of her "special relationship" with Sony's Steve Kent. So really, those 40 years don't count for a whole lot except longevity. Also, while ABC was promoting Jill, look at where their daytime soap lineup ended up: AMC and OLTL yanked off the air, and GH barely hanging on. Just shows their lack of judgment in some of the showrunners they've hired over the years, JFP being near the top of the list.
Members JONNYSBRO
U never know Jill might fire josh Griffith and appoint herself head writer. She did it at oltl. Oltl had no official head writer in 1999 she appointed herself as head writer we had the grace drama, Ben as Buchanan heir and Dorian hitting Jessica and killing her baby. Members frequentsoapfan
She said months ago that she doesn't want to be HW at Y&R. Something about how its too hard to sucessfully be EP and HW. I remember because some people got mad saying she was dissing Brad Bell.

Members YRBB
^^Even if it's true, whoever's writing that crapola needs to take a seat ALSO I don't understand why people are "comfortable" with Meg Bennett HWing for Y&R just because she wrote scripts for the show three decades ago. True, it does give her a connection but writing scripts is totally not equal to being a headwriter. There needs to be a talented writer(s) (whether someone coming back from the old team or someone completely new to the genre) that are willing and capable of writing the show in its own style. So far, the ONLY one that has done so successfully is, you guessed it, Kay Alden. You can throw any and all suggestions but they're not going to work because these writers cannot and will not write Y&R the way it is supposed to be written.
