I effing hate those "Keep Calm" things that are EVERYWHERE. Every time I see another mug or t-shirt or notebook cover or whatever with a variation of that slogan, the LAST thing I want to do is "keep calm."

I commend @TOLN for taking brave steps to assure long-term success for #AMC #OLTL. Sometimes the right decision isn't the easy or popular 1.

I'll tweet more later but just wanted #AMC #OLTL fans to know I am fully onboard & believe @TOLN made a good decision. Please support us

If they would do the DVD angle, Id be ok with that. I do hope PP does release them on DVD. i know so many fans would buy them

that would be awesome... and the special features could be audio commentary, uncensored episodes, deleted scenes, other featurettes

Smh... Keep calm... Don't you have to focus on your plot to mass murder the Northwestern students in the screenwriting program? Focus, Khanny. Focus!

But Melissa, I've had no problem staying caught up with AMC & OLTL. AMC & OLTL have simply made me get very lazy and behind with GH.

Truth!

Well, I know why Vee and I aren't getting along, and why Soapsuds and I aren't getting along, but you'll have to refresh my memory as to why we have fallen out.

Seriously, R, where is that remark coming from? If you think I'm mocking those who still support AMC & OLTL, remember: I'm in their corner (even if the shows aren't exactly to my taste). ;)

They were popular like 3-4 years. Who knows WHY they're being posted on this board...

And Khan, your idea of removing the episodes after 24 hours would result in me never watching them. And I imagine that would be the case for a lot of people. If you miss an episode you have no option to see it until it's released as a set months later? I'm pretty sure that would drive people away.

Yeah, that's the only part of my plan I can't work out. But I'm trying to figure out a way to eliminate the ability to binge view since that appears to be a grave concern to PP.

And I don't understand their issue with it. I totally get why they don't want people to get backed up (you get too far behind and decide to just give up) but what's wrong with binging? If you're watching on Hulu you still have to sit through the commercials regardless. If you're buying on iTunes, you're still buying on iTunes.

Are the ad rates higher on first-run or weekday-run than they are on weekends? Maybe that's their issue. IDK.

That could be. That there is more money to made from the first day airings

Like I said earlier, advertisers can be selective about what views they pay for based on what they consider to be unique views. A view who watches a weeks worth of episodes within a span of hours could be considered just one unique view.

Hulu and PP are two different entities. PP may want to discourage binge watching but it's great for Hulu since the more shows you watch, the more ads you see.

I get that they are different entities. I guess my mistake was thinking that PP was losing money because Hulu wasn't getting unique daily visitors, since Hulu seems to be the main outlet for the show.

Can someone explain to me exactly why PP cares how often we watch as long as we watch every episode?

I think I read somewhere, not soap specific though, that ad rates are usually highest for streaming in the first 1-3 days depending on the show and then go down significantly after that. If that's the case, I can definitely see why PP would not be thrilled with weekend marathoning.

Another question: how did PP decide which days new episodes of AMC and OLTL would be made available online? Why make new eps of AMC available on Mondays and Wednesdays, and new eps of OLTL on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and not the other way around? For that matter, why couldn't BOTH be available on Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays, or even Thursdays and Fridays (with the "MORE" shows pushed back to the weekends)?

See, I think the official, stated reasons for this change paint only part of the picture. What if -- and this is just speculation -- but what if PP took a look at the daily viewing totals on Hulu and realized that while people indeed were watching AMC and OLTL, there were days when they watched each show more than others. If AMC fans, for example, tended to watch more on Mondays and Wednesdays, would PP be tempted to alter the viewing schedule toward that trend in order to maximize profit, regardless of the binge-viewers?

In other words, I don't believe it was a random decision to have new AMC or new OLTL eps available when they will be.
