Sleepy Hollow: Discussion Thread

Yeah. That's for sure. I don't quite believe that the delayed viewing numbers mean much. Sites like Tvbythenumbers say they don't and I think they are right. Has anyone noticed that lately ads are the first thing you see when you DVR certain shows? B&B comes to mind. Pretty smart on the part of the networks, but I've adapted and have my remote ready. I have almost no patience for ads.

Anyway, I LOVE this show. I love it! I can't believe they are going 3 weeks without a new episode. That has me very worried. I hope people don't forget about it. I want to see more of the sister.

I hope they stick to 13 episodes my self.

The New Yorker in their Fall network tv wrap up this week picked it as, and critic Emily admitted she thought this would never happen, the best new drama!

I think Fox is wisely finally sticking to having a series of these 13 episode serialized shows--The Following, though I thought it quickly became awful myself, was a pretty strong hit for them, relatively speaking, etc.

To be fair most, if not all of those shows weren't serialized (I'm not sure how many episodes a season The Fugitive did which is one of the earlier semi serialized dramas--and helped kill interest in them because since it actually had a conclusion, people decided it would not do well in syndication.) And then of course Peyton Place had 2/3 episodes a week, without skipping a week--but, despite the high production values of the show, that was maybe a different type of thing being a community soap opera and not one serialized story.

It's been interesting to see all the articles analyzing this show's success. Surprisingly few of them seem to understand that the cast diversity is a big part of the reason it's successful. Not the only reason of course, but still it's a big part of what makes Sleepy Hollow fresh.

Yep, diversity never occurs to critics and others when debating the reasons that broadcast networks are losing their audience. The demographics of this country are changing. The broadcast networks are going to have to move beyond tokenism of people of color if their programming is going to attract that key 18 to 49 demo that their advertisers desperately desire. I think that is especially the case when it comes to genre shows like SH.

    • Hahaha!!! Not Naomi being sure Chelesa ain't filming this time!!!   At last! Kat is proven right!!!   And hey, Nicole's Doctor friend, hey!!!   So far...this is giving.
    • Leslie having the nerve to show up at the Dupree House was pure insanity. Bill being revealed to be more ruthless than anyone would have thought was a good development. I have to imagine that will change Dani's view of wanting him back. The whole reveal was well done and Trisha Mann-Grant owned those scenes. That was most definitely material for an Emmy submission reel.
    • I agree, all the Guys Tux were nice. I like how they differ from each other and all stylish in a way. Awe, same. Can not believe I actually have enjoying a current daytime soap. Rewatching these episodes over the weekend as a jump back into Ryan's Hope and Santa Barbara. Agreed! Exciting times.

And it was pretty dope we didn't know that tidbit before the reveal.
    • yes I thought of the Renee party... But this is different because I'm talking specifically about the revealer convincing someone else to throw the party.  And the someone else complies, having no idea what the revealer plans. I'm wondering if Michele Val Jean did a first with BTG in 2025. But the BTG thread is already so busy -- that I thought it important to *NOT* clog it up with discussing this, so I brought the question here instead. That way, if other reveals come up in conversation, it's not a problem on this "general retro soap" thread.
    • Well, good that they showed Vanessa though I wish she was there.   Lol. And here comes Naomi. AND an explanation from Jacob.

She is diabolical! Remember in this scene she offered Martin a brownie which seemed so random? In this episode its revealed that when he was a kid, Ted used to bring him to a restaurant where the waitress would give him brownies....that waitress was Leslie. She was playing games and trying to jog his childhood memory
    • Yay!!!!!! And made it ON TIME, TOO!!!   And this is giving DAYS reveals circa late 90s already.
    • Bish what? I was not expecting that, I was for sure expecting him to go after Nicole (He still can). Looks like Leslie put her out! I love these new developments, Eva Dorian Lording her way into Fairmont Crest. My good sis better trap that doctor.
    • It should be in its synopsis on the DVR description of the show.
