GH 50: Discussion for the Month of April - May 3, 2013

One thing I hate about RC is that he writes with a super couple mentality. It reminds me of Days of our Lives and its annoying as hell. The couples are way too predictable and he tends to latch onto nostalgia even if it no longer works

None of these couples have any chemistry - none he created and none of those he's reuniting. The only ones I would say do are Kevin/Lucy (we barely see them). Mac and Felicia are OK but barely seen. AJ and Liz are OK but this mostly feels like a stopgap.

That's because it seems contradictory to be attacking things for supposedly not making sense or being rushed, and then praise the most rushed thing of all, that also does little to nothing to advance Sam's character or the plot.

The number was great dancing, and it was entertaining, but it was clearly about "Kelly and DWTS" guy, because the setup for it as Sam made no sense. There's no reason the show had to act like Sam was called in at the last minute. He could have told her even at the beginning of the show his partner had dropped out and it would have made more sense than it did. In contrast, the other numbers and the rest of the episode not only made more sense but also showed something about the characters or advanced story.

If people weren't picking on other things while praising being taken completely out of the fiction in that scene, I probably wouldn't have brought it up. Because yes, I do love the show right now and yes I do think the perfect is not the enemy of the good. But I felt picking on other things while praising that was a contradiction.

Sorry, I'm not telling anyone how to feel or not to post their opinions or analyses. I don't just want to see uniformly positive comments. I'm not calling anyone "deaf" as R Sinclair you wrote about me (LOL). I'm just pointing out what I see as a contradiction and wanting to be clear about my opinion of the strengths and the weaknesses of yesterday's episode and the show.

Oh, Jesus! I enjoyed a goddamn dance number for what it was... a dance number. Nothing more, nothing less. I know you're full of wisdom and marvelous insight after watching this show for 6 episodes but, sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar.

jfung I agree what you said, most bash cause it's the names Ron and Frank, heck there are people who don't even watch that bash non stop lol

I figured you'd be more sympathetic and less judgmental since you do the same with Prospect Park. No? My mistake.

Yeah, Brenda already knows Sean. He was at her effing wedding!

I think A.J. and Liz actually have a lot of chemistry. I like that couple a lot. I hope they'll get more soon - I think they will. But I think they could play a Carly/A.J./Liz triangle for years, with a fourth side to be determined. I still want Sarah Brown back, though.

Dancing with Maksim is, I think, the most fun KM has ever had on this show. I understand Maksim's character may have some connection to the upcoming mystery of Sam's father, but he's clearly just a cameo. I'd like to see them introduce someone similar for her, but with a real actor - another foreign, dashing type, funny and debonair, possibly Russian and connected to the Cassadine intrigue. Emphasis on the fun.

I think Luke and Laura will always have chemistry. But they have to let her have strength, and have her own say, have her own life. She doesn't have that now, at least not yet. Say what you will but in those 1996 episodes from the marathon, early on, they had Luke lecturing Lucky on showing his mother respect, how she'd lived with her secret for years. That is the Luke I want back. I'd like to see him rebuild that old Spencer house to prove himself to Laura. That would mean a lot to me. I'd also like to see Luke have to fight someone else for her, someone who is a real threat - suave, sweet, adventurous, sexy. Maybe a new WSB guy. If it was up to me I wouldn't reunite them this year - I'd make it play out for at least 18 months, with several more adventures along the way. Just like how LNL first got together.

Not to be pedantic, but it's 11 episodes, and I love how the 90s don't count when you say that. Also I don't claim any great wisdom or marvelous insight, but I share my opinions. Sorry that offends you.

I have been enjoying Sam A LOT more lately. I couldn't stand her with John and I ship Liason. I'm so glad John's gone and I hope and pray something doesn't work out and ME leaves GH forever.

I though she was ruined for me in 2005, and then again in 2007, but she sorta was revived again for me.

Unfortunately and ironically, that all started with this show. So we've got a SuperCouple-minded writer on the mother of SuperCouples show... I'm sure he's thinking he can't fail! <_<

Putting two depressed-looking actors together tends to just make them look more depressed. She's had one love interest in her whole GH run (I'm not counting Jax as that was quick and I never care about his non-Alexis reltationships anyway) who didn't look like he was two minutes away from eating a gun.

You? Pedantic? :o I would never have guessed!

The 90s don't count because Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini weren't writing and producing GH in the 90s. You sharing your opinions doesn't offend me. You implying that I have flawed, contradictory thinking over my delight in a simple dance number does. If you don't agree with me and didn't like the dance number, fine. However, if you took my praise of Kelly/Sam's dancing out of the mix, you'd see that I actually agree with you. The story behind Sam's dance number is precisely the shoddy storytelling I've been complaining about that I've been witnessing on this show for more than 11 episodes... for more than a year at this point.

I feel like AJ and Liz are mostly together for his inevitable tryst with Carly, which will probably lead to some sort of blackmail and stalling, as Liz stands on the sidelines waiting to be hurt by the campy reveal. But I don't know. If I thought they were a real couple I'd try to get invested.

I'm not watching the Ron Carlivati show, I'm watching General Hospital. My whole point has been that I'm reacting to whether I think this is good GH, not Ron Carlivati. My frustration earlier in this thread was that instead of reacting to GH as GH, it seemed like lots of people were venting about Carlivati/Valentini as usual, some (not sure if you are one of them) carrying OLTL baggage with them.

I agree with you that the Sam stuff supports what you're saying, but I think it is one of the few things I have seen so far that does.

Sam learning the dance in 5 minutes was stupid but she and Maks were still good.

I thought Spinelli and Ellie's skit was really cute even though I don't like them. Though I'm not sure how great of an idea it was to have an act with a lab and explosions. Isn't that how Robin "died" mellow.pnglaugh.png

Jack Wagner sounded good. The Mr. Marbles crap makes me laugh just because it's so stupid. I might be alone there.

The opening number was dumb and I cringed through the whole thing.

The Sabrina stuff continues to get more and more ridiculous. I felt like I was watching a group of 6th graders when Felix and Liz were literally going "Oh. Em. Gee!" and jumping up and down and going in for a big group hug because Patrick kissed Sabrina. And who is writing some of this dialogue? "You and Patrick obviously have a super serious connection that can't be denied." If you say so, Milo.

And as random and childish as it was, I enjoyed Brenda throwing the roll at Carly's head.

I am deader than disco.

At this point, I want to consider watching GH solely for the purpose of keeping up with this thread.

LOL, whatever works to get you watching, I'll gladly keep bickering haha (no not really).

AJ and Liz don't have chemistry and I don't even think they look good next to each other. I will continue to say they missed a great opportunity to put her with Patrick. Every time they interact, I see chemistry there and they have history that would have made a pairing believable
