Was there any mention who will be on next week's episode? That interview was kind of mellow...

Debbi and Darnell were great as usual. I just love them! Darnell was having some wine which makes me love him more smile.png

"Wine Talk with Debbi and Darnell" should be OWN's newest show.

nope.. but he did tell us to keep an eye on Twitter and Facebook

Clearly Darnell doesn't understand how painful a process that can be.

Someone is trying really hard to justify her love of soap operas to her editor and her new job, in effete terms she thinks will make it more palatable to them.

Not sure if this person likes or hates soaps. What do you think about this Article???

I think it's a good piece. She clearly loves the genre but not blindly so. IMO, we could use more of that and less of the starfucking we get from the soap press.

Is it true that they've fallen that far on iTunes? I hope that's only because people finally realized how "Hula" works.

I have a real bad migraine so I may need to re-read everything later on!! But it does seem she likes the Genre but doesn't totally understand it. Like I said, I may need to read it again.

I think it fell on iTunes because of the schedule change. Since there is no longer a set day (except monday) people will be watching at different times. Also, there are less episodes so less downloads.

It's a good article except for the apologia about praising soaps in general. I'm used to that, it's such a cliche of mainstream media.

I also didn't think her points stuck at the end. "Why aren't they defending the soap opera medium for the future? Why, why, why? Justify your existence so I don't feel so embarrassed when talking to my boss!" There's a slew of articles out there, in equally reputable publications, which have made that case many a time, courtesy of the same cast and crew being interviewed. And then she decides oh, it's okay because they're just soaps and she likes them anyway (even though they're "bad," so don't look down on her ok guys she still wants to keep writing for the Arts section).

But then I haven't liked Slate much in a long time.

That's the same type of tone we see in discussions of Comic-con. I feel like the only form of "extreme" fandom that doesn't get treated like a mental defect is sports. You want to take your shirt off at a football game and stand there with your face painted orange? You're just a red-blooded American. Watch soap operas? Well that's just a step below going to a sex club.

Well, that's her problem, it ain't mine. I'm secure in my career outside my love for soaps.

Exactly it!! Why is there such a stigma?? I think there is more to it than the "Because it was Womens entertainment and because Women were 2nd class nobody took them seriously". If so, why didn't the stigma end in the 80s when everyone was watching them?? It could be possible that Irna's enemies who worked as PGP/CBS/NBC executives created the stigma to piss her off or to beat her at her own game when she did something like cancelling a show because she didnt' get her way or sabotaging the experiment for one of her shows to be recorded on Color tape.

Also, 9 times out of 10 when you see a soap spoof there is Organ music yet Organ music hasn't been used in DECADES!!! Some of the cliches they point out in those spoofs are not even relevant to the industry. I was watching the apprentice a while back to see the clip with Susan Lucci and they did that "Dun. Dun. Dunnnnn" thing every 10 seconds. Soaps don't do that!! Actually, soap poofs now are so out there you can't even see the resemblance.
