AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

Yes. Susan has said repeatedly that she always wanted to be a blonde, largely in part because the blonde-haired, blue-eyed WASP-y goddess was what was considered beautiful when she was growing up - she was told in starting out her career that it was a pity she wasn't a blonde, that she'd have a tough time because she looked "too ethnic" etc. In that unauthorized bio someone wrote of her in the 80s, there's a great quote from AMC's then-costume designer saying that the main problem with dressing Susan was that she really wanted to be a 5'10" blonde.

So yes, I suspect that the hideous blonde wigs involved with Corinne the French maid and Desiree Dubois may have been Susan's idea.

It wasn't their initial story line, which was Jeremy dating Ceara so she'd leave his son David alone, but it did deepen their connection when he stood by her side as she recalled her father molesting her.

You guys who didn't know Genie Francis as Laura make me feel so old!

I want the child alive, too!

Oh yeah, Celia was definitely raped by someone I'd say. Maybe she blocked it out like Erica and Ceara both did.

I'm still 100% certain that the woman in the locket is Francesca James.

I may not be as big a theatre fan as you two, but I'm also displeased that anyone would post Lucille Ball's terrible performance as Mame!

Yup, that was Carmen's story. I liked her too and was disappointed that she just disappeared.

Walt Willey was very vocal behind the scenes about NOT liking the relationship with Carmen. He felt that Jack moved way too fast into that, and that Jack would never bring another woman into his and Erica's bed that quickly and flaunt it the way he did on the show. He really hated the way Jack was written around that time and complained about it... which led to him getting fired. He's publicly said that's what happened and that's why Jack was written off for a while as being in Paris. Carmen was just dropped, so we don't know if she left town, if she's cleaning someone else's house somewhere in Pine Valley, if she was killed in the tornado, etc.

I hope they don't do an abuse story with Celia. [spoiler] That story would similar undertones as Miranda's story finding out she is the product of rape. Plus, we have Cassandra who is involved in sex trafficking.

Oops, spoiler tags aren't working.

Ive been meaning to ask but at what point will stuff be needing to be put in spoiler tags and long discussion of such directed towards the Spoiler forum? It seems as if most interviews, preview clips, casting news, etc... seem to be spoilerish to a degree but freely posted and discussed here and thats obviously not the case with the other soaps. Just wondering....thanks

I'm okay with some things being left dangling. :) Someone just wandering off the canvas leaves the door open to bring them back at some point if needed, and it beats killing everyone off when you don't want them around anymore.

I spent a lot of my teenage years dreaming of being a soap writer. :P Nice to know I'm not alone.

Heck, Susan Lucci's own grandchildren are kindergarten-age and younger! SHE doesn't even have teenaged grandkids yet!

I mean, yes, Cady looks infinitely better than she did on AMC in the past (although that's admittedly not saying much), but they seem to be trying to make her look younger at the same time they're making her son and grandson older! It makes no sense. Look at Cady, and then stop and think that she is one drunken prom night away from being a GREAT grandmother on this show.

    • Also feel strange that JFP wouldn't want to take credit for any work she's potentially doing. Wouldn't that be breaking some union rules as well?
    • Where's the credible source that JFP is back?
    • I remember Phyllis' place when she was with Billy -- there was a lot of (fake) concrete on that set, and I remember her living in a place that had a lot of red and white.
    • The only time Phyllis had a home in recent years was when she lived at the cottage house (Victoria's now home), the Abbott mansion, Nick's now-gone home, or the two temporary apartments she had. Otherwise, she's houseless.

    • The restaurant and coffee shop hopping is what bothers me, too. I absolutely hate it. Yes, the new sets are great. The Newman ranch, the Abbott mansion, Billy's house -- they're all classy and great. I appreciated The Crimson Lights update a few years ago, and the remodel of Sharon's tack house where Victoria lives is nicely done. However, because of limitations on what's permanently standing and what needs to be assembled when used, the sets problem is still a mess. We get Jack's office and that hallway into his office for a couple days, and that's it. That means any Jabot business talk is conducted at a bar, restaurant or coffee shop. It's nuts that Devon's office is no longer used. Lily? She sits down at either Society or the GCAC every damn day. Billy's starting this new, dynamic company -- no office. Phyllis? No home, no work space. She runs from restaurant to coffee shop. And no, throwing in that Chancellor Park set as a meeting place for EVERYONE who goes to the park isn't enough. When you have SO many characters discussing business (also a huge problem) it's a huge error to have only one business locale up at a time.  Comparing Y&R to DAYS does not work. We all know DAYS has no budget. We know that Y&R has been #1 for DECADES and SHOULD have a budget. We deserve better. Is the GH budget that much bigger than Y&R's? Because they manage an enormous cast and a buttload of sets just fine. GH doesn't look like a show that's penny-pinching. And then when Y&R spends money on a new set, it becomes a storyline, which is a joke. We hear about it for weeks on end. When has this ever happened on a soap? When should this ever happen? Compounding all this sets mess? The writing on Y&R is ABYSMAL. It has never been worse. I have never been so bored with this show in my entire life. B&B is trash, but Y&R is worse -- it's boring trash.
    • If I recall, they moved a wall that cut the living room from the kitchen off, and it is now more open. Either way, or the wall by the staircase, because you could always see that smell kitchen. IIRC, he's still living in the house he had during Mal Young's regime that got quickly nixed.
    • Vault is temporarily down - I'll get it back up within a few hours.

    • For all of Kat's supposed interest in true crime, she seems pretty clueless.
