Your LEAST Favorite Opening Sequences

The second version of the My Guiding Light theme in the 80s is one I'm not crazy about.

Ditto this version:

The bookend versions are my favorites.

To be honest. I thought the logo for Guiding Light. Always made it look like a soda can font. Like, you know...Pepsi Light, Coca Cola Light, and a drink called Guiding Light...really isn't that far off.

Also. In that last one. Phillip had one hell of a mullet.

Scott Reeves and Kristen Alderson hate? We're so best friends.

Oh, ages ago

Passions had an irritating theme song and the opening was not great either.

Passions was my soap as a teen so I can't hate lol

Yeah, but it always seemed strange to me how a character who came to Pine Valley as some greasy-looking mercenary evolved into garrulous "Uncle Porkchop."

That was an odd transformation. heh!

Janet killing Trevor didn't really bother me. Like I said, the character was done for me when he knowingly married Janet From Another Planet.

Oh, I HATE those versions. Both incorporate arrangements of "My Guiding Light" that are overly synthesized; and the 1989 one in particular is way too damn peppy. Plus, by 1988/89, it seemed as if they had done away with any and all "light" motifs whatsoever. "Guiding Light" was just a title, nothing more.

I didn't read through so maybe this has already been mentioned but I hate GH's current opening. I also grew very tired of the opening OLTL had at its end.

Yea somebody mentioned the GH one. The OLTL was stale cause they never updated the damn shots. Oh I'M SORRY, muthafucking Rex and Gigi got like 800 updates on their pictures. AND NATALIE STILL HAD HER 18 YEAR OLD LOOKING COMBOVER PART AND END FLIP. COOL. I'm not bitter or anything, don't mind me.

The 1996 GL rock HOTH opening. Just COMPLETELY out of place.

The jazz one, however? THAT one I love.

People never believe me when I say this, but I do remember then-EP Michael Laibson trying out even an island- or Caribbean-flavored version of that theme song, replete with steel [!@#$%^&*] drums. LOL.

I totally agree. I'd post a gif but the elders will scorn.

You know, even the GUIDING LIGHT opening sequence from the Dobsons/Marland era has major problems. The theme song is pretty, if not exactly "hummable". But what on Earth possessed P&G to think that a ray of sunlight trying and failing to shine through the biggest mass of dead leaves I've ever seen equaled "GUIDING LIGHT"?

I gotchu. Not to mention Nora looked like a man in hers. Had to be said!

"Horrid" doesn't begin to describe it. For one, is there even a theme song anymore? What I hear, IMO, doesn't qualify even as an abbreviated version of one. Frankly, they were better off with just a simple "GH -- GENERAL HOSPITAL" title card.

But that is the trend for primetime. Daytime is, for once, being contemporary. Yeah, the days of long openings were good but with more ad time they are forced into this. For a "title card" this is not bad IMO; it is actually better than some I've seen in primetime.

I love Nora and HBS but the lesbian haircut did her no favors.

I'm going to risk being VERY unpopular and say that, although I liked the version before it better, the only thing that really

bothered me about that last OLTL opening was that it didn't get another update. It eventually needed to change, but the theme itself wasn't as much of an issue to me.

ETA: I guess alexisfan07 beat me to that one! laugh.png

I also like the 2004 theme song on its own, especially when the piano intro is added in:

That pissed me off too. I think only a handful of people other than Rex and Gigi got updated shots.
