HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

If I had to guess at this point I would imagine that the AMC writers will be those who were on staff at the end and are currently available. So something along the lines of Addie Walsh as HW, Lisa Connor as a co-HW or outline writer, and Rebecca Taylor and Joanna Cohen writing scripts (and maybe James Harmon Brown in there somewhere if he's interested in writing without Barbara Esensten).

The thing about Addie Walsh is she is a very....kooky?... individual and I wonder if she had more of a hand in some of the stranger/nuttier/poorer choices made over the years than we think.

For OLTL, unless Ron decides to give up one of his writers to tackle this, I could maybe see Leah Laiman being in contention because Jennifer Pepperman spent that decade at ATWT during Chris Goutman's reign. Or Gordon Rayfield.

I've always been iffy towards Leah Laiman. Doesn't she have quite a not-so-good writing track record?

IMO, going off her track record, I think she's fine, but she does have some dud moments. I mean she was at GH & DOOL during their golden ages, and I thought she did fine on Another World & her 99-00 stint as HW at ATWT; however, her last stints at World Turns were abysmal, but she did have Goutman and Passanante with her. . .unsure.png

Gordon Rayfield without Anna Cascio (sp?) would be death - his solo performance on All My Children was dreadful.

Finn Wittrock Is such a classic soap tale. Not good enough for a soap while the likes of Cameron Mathison last years on end, and yet he is somehow good enough for Death Of A Salesman, Tennessee Williams, and the entire audience of non-soap watchers and casting agents. Daytime never gets it right.

This is one of the reasons I'm glad to see that - IF this is all true - PP will be shooting on the east coast. I like the idea of having theatre talent readily available.

I don't know much about the Dobsons except for Santa Barbara but would they be good at AMC or OLTL? I wonder how well Doug Marland would write for AMC or OLTL if he wasn't dead?

The thing is Lorriane Broderick is under contract with NBC/Ken Corday. She can't just exit her contract to work on AMC. I doubt they would let her out plus why would Lorriane take a paycut to write AMC online. I love Lorriane but she has a good gig at DAYS that pays more money and I highly doubt NBC would let her out of her contract. People don't seem to get how contracts work. She has a contract with NBC for a couple years.

Just to be clear--I do NOT see this happening. But, for a while it was said LB was over the soap process (partly due to no desire to work under Frons) and we do know she was teaching at some fairly hih profile university I believe (I, of course, forget which one). She doesn't exactly seem to be lighting DAYS on fire, even though she has worked with Tomlin and Chris W before so prob likes working with them if she agreed to return to them--but she also made it pretty clear she returned to AMC the last two times (the brief interim period after Pratt and then the final half year or whatever when she had signed a much longer contract) largely due to a lot of affection for AMC and its well being. Maybe that could play a factor if she were able to leave Days.

Agreed. Leah Laiman co HW OLTL during that very rough post Malone, pre Labines era (I believe with Jean Passanante again...) which was just a muddle of a mess of a period--I can barely even remember stories there, so that's where I judge her.

On theother hand I'd give Addie Walsh a shot--I liked her short year at Loving where it seemed to have a Nixon-ish quality and she certainly knows her AMC where, acording to other writers she was fairly well respected. Not sure if she's kooky or not :P

ABsolutely and Isorta didn't think about that until the Finn Wittrock thing came up. I could see more actors who want to stay based around New York agreeing to do the web series in CT--a small commute, especially if the suggestion (which I like) of using more revolving actors who come and go depending on stories (since a permanent, small cast doesn't seem too appealing), which could easily be shot over a few months or even weeks between theatre projects. I still say theatre actors tend to make the most compelling soap actors (partly because of similarities in how they are filmed and done), and they also may tend to have less ego about doing something like this short term.
