I don't think PP made an official announcement about OLTL's writers I believe that honor goes to Susan Bedsow Horgan.

Nope. And don't think I'm not sharing because I don't know. I mean, I don't know for sure -- and for the sake of certain individuals here, I don't want to put it out there either. Judging especially from Errol's unofficial seal of approval, though, I have a pretty good idea who the someone is. How do I, Khan, feel about it? Well, we'll see. If it's who I think it is: some will be okay with it, others will be "okay" with it (as in, "Ehhh, gee, I don't know, but maybe this might turn out well in the end?"), and still others are just gonna [!@#$%^&*] hate it.

A hint??

Considering its only like 170 episodes and they're half hour, I still stand by my desire to have 2-4 total writers for each soap. Thays very possible, but requires real talent since the HWs would have to write scripts and do breakdowns. The best soaps from 50s-70s had small teams and thats when they were good. Plus its cheaper. Didnt Edge of Night have a total of two writera for many years? And I know Bill Bell was with Kay Alden for many years. Ryan's Hope is another example and these are shows that hold up today.

IMO, it should be a Headwriting Team responsible for the long-term story projection.

1 AHW responsible for overall breakdown and pacing and editing the dialogue to keep consistent tone

2 Breakdown Writers responsible for fleshing out the breakdown from the AHW

3 Dialogue Writers

I can see where Chris B is coming from on wanting a smaller writing team. There would probably be more consistency, and also up to the early 70s, from interviews, it seems like that's how the soaps were written. The headwriters seemed to need to write scripts too. But I'm not sure it would work in the modern era.

I'm not sure it would work in the modern era with the WGA. Yes, a Headwriter can write breakdowns and dialogue, but I'm not sure if breakdown and dialogue writers were cut out of the mix entirely that it would go over very well with the union. I think that the HW should read and watch the shows to make sure their vision is working, but I think them being overloaded with every detail would burn them out much faster.

The bloated writing teams we have no just don't make any sense. It's not giving us better quality and it's a waste of budget. Large writing teams are what allowed Maria Arena Bell to be off set for the majority of the year and work whenever she felt like it. It would basically be like paying one of us to pitch stories and make decisions every now and then, but continue to do whatever we're already doing in our real lives.

Lynn Marie Latham ph34r.png

She apparently was considered when Pratt was hired.

Lynn Marie Latham is a great writer. One of the biggest problems in developing talent for soaps is that they tend to give newbies too much power too soon and it sinks them. Lynn Latham did AMAZING things in primetime and even a lot of her ideas for Y&R were very good. The problem was the execution and the pacing. She also had high ratings at least until Victoria Rowell's exit derailed things. Had they kept her with Kay Alden and Jack Smith Y&R wouldn't be the mess it is. It would've flourished. I would absolutely welcome Lynn Latham back to daytime under the right circumstances. She's a very progressive writer and believes in giving minorities stories at least. She completely revived the Winters and made then an INTEGRATED force in Genoa City. She also gave us sexy ass Ji Min, who was perfect with Jill.

Going back to reality, I don't know how I feel about AMC's HW announcement. We'll see, but I'm just not that crazy about Marlene McPherson, even as a big Passions fan.

Latham is someone I would call mediocre and mostly suited to the right show. She did a good job at Knots, overall. I was offended by some of her PC work, especially that she so disliked Lucy Coe that she had her blind her own child.

Wait- what?

Are you talking about that story with the car blowing up or something with Serena in it? I didn't know that was LML.

  • Member

Yes, that was LML. She seemed to hate Lucy and wanted everyone to love Eve.

When was she writing for PC again? I'm going to have to look up what other stories she did over there.

I'm semi sober....

I like the person, personally and professionally.

I'm told the reason prospect park is announcing is because they are wanting to announce the full writing team, which is still being assembled as I write. Now I sleep. Night bitches.

Errol, is this going to kick off a trend of Prospect Park releasing news instead of all these leaks? They need to build a respectable direct line of communication with fans. They could also build traffic for their Online Network if they had people blogging on that site and driving traffic. It's very strange. And will they announce a full writing team for OLTL as well? I'm assuming you mean beyond the HW announcement.

98-maybe into 99.

She and her husband wrote General Homicide, and the weird story where Frank became a psycho slut because he was hooked on some drug that had saved his life (DL-46). Victor and Mary fell in love. Lucy was trashed so that Eve could become the patron saint of PC, and be paired with Kevin.

I'll ask Errol again here and maybe this time he'll answer: What do you think the odds are of this actually happening now?
