It's that time of year again, folks! What are your favorite Christmas movies and/or TV specials to watch every year?

For me, they are:

A Christmas Story

A Holiday Affair

A Charlie Brown Christmas

A Garfield Christmas Special

It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown

It's a Wonderful Life

More to come! :)

The Little Drummer Boy

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Frosty the Snowman

Home Alone (wonderful childhood memory seeing this in the theatre with family)

Love Actually (wonderful college memory seeing this in the theatre with friends)

Bad Santa

Lady and the Tramp

Christmas Vacation

Christmas episodes of sitcoms (Good Times, What's Happening!!, The Golden Girls...)

A Christmas Story, of course!

I'll admit, I've never seen It's a Wonderful Life.

I've never been crazy about the traditional Christmas specials, and the only Christmas movies I really like that are coming to me right now are the first two Home Alone movies.

Christmas EPISODES of sitcoms, though? I can go all day. Three's Company, The Brady Bunch, Laverne and Shirley, Beverly Hillbillies, Mary Tyler Moore, Happy Days, Good Times, That Girl, Bewitched, Facts of Life, Bob Newhart, Dick Van Dyke, Sanford and Son...

1. Ms. Scrooge (Cicely Tyson as Scrooge, enough said)

2. It Nearly Wasn't Christmas (Issac from the Love Boat with a fake parrot is a riot)

3. The Kid Who Loved Christmas (Sad, but a really good film. The cast is all-star)

4. Lily In Winter (Very dramatic, but it's good)

5. A Diva's Christmas Carol (It's hilarious)

6. The Santa Clause (Timeless classic)

7. Jack Frost (It's sad, but a really great film)

8. Ebbie (I'm surprised no one else mentioned this one since Susan Lucci is in it)

9. One Magic Christmas (A good Christmas drama, kind of mixes A Christmas Carol and it's A Wonderful Life)

10. A Christmas Carol, 2000 (Ross Kemp from EastEnders plays Scrooge. It's a gritty version of the story, but it's an interesting twist)

Ebbie definitely crossed my mind, but regardless of my Lucci love, it's a little too dark/depressing for me to call it a favorite. Kelly from Fifteen which I used to watch on Nickelodeon is in it too.

I have been meaning to look at Ms. Scrooge with Cicely Tyson since it came out (which if memory serves, was the same year as Ebbie... apparently, "female Scrooge" was a popular premise that year). Like I said, I never saw it, but when I read about it in TV Guide i loved the fact that her name was Ebaneatha.

My favorite Christmas show is the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas. My oldest son and I usually have a contest to see who can quote the most of it verbatim. Dr Suess was always the #1 author in my house when my kids were little. The Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham, The Sneeches....they loved them all. But Boris Karloff is the BOMB in the Grinch!

I like A Wonderful Life, but I have to be in the mood to watch it.

I've never seen all of a Chtistmas Story. I've tried, but can't get through the whole thing. I fall asleep everytime.

Most of my fav Christmas movies are the silly ones Lifetime makes. But my VERY favorite is one from a few years back called Borrowed Hearts. It has Eric MacCormack and Roma Downey in it and it's adorable.

    • Probably. Stephanie is still so underdeveloped as a character to me.  She jumps from romance to romance and I feel like she takes on the persona and interests of the man she is with at the moment.  I don't really know her interests or personality.  And Stephanie certainly gets enough airtime to explore more than sex with Alex. I know she was interacting with Kayla today, but a lot of the dialogue was "Alex asked", "Alex thinks..", "Alex is now free so I have to go" lol.  What do you think about anything, Stephanie?
    • May 2025:   New Pope, Leo XIV is chosen in Rome, while the Italian Open tennis tournament is happening in Rome. The headline is "Sinner meets the Pope"  or  "Pope meets Sinner". LOL, this is tennis player Jannik Sinner. He met with Pope Leo and gave him a tennis racket. Leo plays tennis himself and is a tennis fan. (He is also a Chicago Cubs baseball fan).    https://apnews.com/article/pope-leo-jannik-sinner-tennis-italian-open-9305b5f2957ac15c7a405f836371ec1e The top-ranked tennis player visited the new pope on Wednesday, gave him a tennis racket and offered to play, during an off day for Sinner at the Italian Open. Leo, the first American pope, is an avid tennis player and fan and had said earlier this week that he would be up for a charity match when it was suggested by a journalist. But at the time, Leo joked “we can’t invite Sinner,” an apparent reference to the English meaning of Sinner’s last name. By Wednesday, all seemed forgotten. “It’s an honor,” Sinner said in Italian as he and his parents arrived in a reception room of the Vatican’s auditorium. Holding one of his rackets and giving Leo another and a ball, the three-time Grand Slam champion suggested a quick volley. But the pope looked around at the antiques and said, “Better not.” Leo, a 69-year-old from Chicago, then appeared to joke about his white cassock and its appropriateness for Wimbledon, perhaps a reference to the All England Club’s all-white clothing rule.

    • I still can’t help but think that this was all Ron and Paula/Jeanne just decided to run with it.  Maybe it’ll improve over time
    • Anything, but this non-story.  Who cares if Stephanie publishes her Danielle Steel novel or not?  Maybe Joy will be back sooner or later with the baby. Last Chance Sale at Nordstrom rack.  I bet JJ has one too. Yeah.  For some reason I thought they shuttered the whole Publishing department after that.
    • Quote from the May 14, 2025 AP article on BTG: https://apnews.com/article/beyond-gates-renewal-d7369f7a60a0a992483294acb950ef6d Charlene Polite Corley, Nielsen’s vice president of diverse insights and partnerships, says 52% of the total audience is Black. “It’s bringing folks along for this really unique story being told in a lot of ways for the first time. And so, yes, the Black audience is leading here, but there’s a whole lot of other kinds of folks who are tuning in, too,” she said.
    • I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't put words in my mouth. I never said he shouldn't have been upset about it. He knew before the wedding and went through with it anyway. She offered to split up with him. He decided to stay. Then he treated her dirt, even after she had just lost her baby. If he couldn't deal with it, he should have left her. (Or, SHE should have thrown him out. The story made no sense.)
    • I wish the triangle with Philip was still going on with them. Maybe Days got a good deal

    • The only way I saw successful playlists for DAYS uploaded to youtube was maybe 10 years ago  .... The uploader had code names for each playlist by obscure nicknames for each character, without mentioning DAYS or the actual character names in the description.  You'd have to be an expert on the show's history to know the obscure nicknames for each character - something mentioned in the show's dialogue once years before. Importantly, commenters were asked to not mention the name of the show or the characters or the actors in their comments, or their comments would be deleted, which meant that the channel owners had to check it daily to delete such comments. AND the videos were all unlisted, so you'd know about it only from word-of-mouth, but were asked not to post about it anywhere. This was many years ago and I enjoyed watching those as they were up for several months. However some unaffiliated fools would create their own playlists on their own personal youtubes, linking to the unlisted videos and labeling their personal playlists with real show name and character names... so of course Sony caught it eventually and it was all lost.
