Members Jonathan
Anybody watch? I was more interested in the Best Soap, which they didn't show during the special, but is featured on the website. 1) General Hospital 2) All My Children 3) Days of Our Lives 4) The Young and the Restless 5) Dark Shadows http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/video/best-soap-opera-17265741
Members All My Shadows
No surprise that AMC is up there where it belongs Cause we only got All My Children.
Members AllMyDaysatGH
Would've been great if AMC was #1 but I can deal with this, I can deal. Love that they put a clip of Erica & Kendall in there (shame on them for not showing Kendall's face). LOL at the highlight for Y&R being Eva Longoria
Members alexisfan07
Gah, I forgot about it! It'd be nice if they released a DVD of it. I'm not surprised by the top four in the least but I guess I didn't realize "Dark Shadows" was as big of a deal as it was. Perhaps because of the film this year they included it? That or I'm completely behind on my soap 101. Anyone doubting that the Luke & Laura and Erica Kane shows wouldn't be #1 and 2 is cray cray. They have the most pop culture gravitas and always will. That damn hourglass comes in a distant third, I suppose.
Members Eric83
Dark Shadows became a cult classic, that said I still don't think it should've been in the top 5. GH either. I wish GL could've gotten a spot in there but it is what it is.
Members alexisfan07
Interesting take. I love hearing everyone's opinions.
Members KMan101
No shock at all to the top three. GH, AMC and DAYS are the more pop culture relevant soaps. EVERYONE knows them whether they watch or not.
Members frequentsoapfan
Everyone used to know them not so much anymore. Ask some 18-25 about them and alot of them have probably neve rheard of the shows.
Members OLTL_fan
Dark Shadows? wtf, that show has been off the air for 41 years. The others aren't much of a shock.
Members quartermainefan
I'd say The Honeymooners was the best comedy of all time and that has been off the air 57 years.
Members EricMontreal22
Who was polled? I'm not so surprised by Dark Shadows, as mentioned it has a pretty large cult fanbase, and I wouldn't be surprised to have them come out and vote. As mentioned, the others still have probably the largest pop culture recognition--Luke and Laura, Erica Kane, Days in the 90s, and Y&R is a pretty recognized soapy name. Members EricMontreal22
Oh, I guess they apparently asked tv writers, producers and actors to make top ten lists, and then people voted online--I wonder what the other five soap options were (I would guess GL, ATWT, B&B, OLTL and maybe some dumb choice like Passions). So I'm, not surprised at all about Dark Shadows making the top five--the fan club alone prob all voted. (not that I don't think it's deserving). At least I guess they didn't do what many other polls would do and add shows like Melrose and Dallas to the options.
Members EricMontreal22
You're mileage could vary, but I really don't think anyone would wanna rewatchit over and overon DVD. I mean ALF came in ahead of Miss Piggy as fave non human character? WTF? (and the fact they aired categories like that, but couldn't squeeze in the one minute soap option says a lot). Kermit did come in first though so maybe he split the Muppet vote.
Members frequentsoapfan
I don't understand how B&B didn't make the top 5 though. It's more popular than the top
Members Khan
Have I mentioned before how much I dislike these kinds of polls? No? Well, I do. A lot.
