Well I'm so happy Crash got the Oscar love....

HOWEVER I'm so torn because Crash and Brokeback Mountain are hands down my two favorite movies of the year and I really want Brokeback Mountain to win, but I also want Crash to win. Could there be a tie please? haha...

I really think Don Cheadle or Terrence Howard should have been nominated over Matt Dillon in Crash - but happy for Matt just the same.

I also am happy to see Jake and Michelle Williams for BBM nominated - they were every bit as good as Heath (who has gotten way more attention).

I'm torn between Reese and Felicity.

I saw History of Violence a long time ago - and I remember Viggo and Ed - but I couldn't remember William Hurt until I googled him - and his performance was way too small and unmemorable to take a nomination spot.

really dont understand all the hoopla over Crash, hope BBM wins.

Shock to see Keira Knightley on that list, i wouldnt mind if she won though, it will be like when Audrey Hepburn won for Roman Holiday. Its not that they are outstanding actresses, its just they have a radiance on screen that is really great to watch.

I wanted to see Thandie Newton get nominated for Crash. To me her and Terrance Howard were the best part of the movie. The scene when Thandie lashes out at Terrance was very well done.

I'd really like to see Crash win but I think Brokeback Mountain will be the big winner.

I like it that there is no big blockbuster this year hogging 14 nominations. It is a very balanced year but still some of those political choices like Munich..... it was a good film but I don't think it deserved to make the top 5. Crash though big thumbs up. That was an awesome choice I was so happy to see it get in there and the SAG win for ensemble helps it immensely but this is Brokeback's year which is just as equally amazing!

    • I found the reference in the AWHP synopses -- it was 1995 but not directly related to the loanshark.

        @Contessa Donatella
    • One of the dumbest situations (Lando) ever. What audience member is going to invest in a storyline with a recast they don't like and a triangle where one character is short-term? It bombed as it should have done. So much of JFP's tenure just reeks of desperation. I don't get how someone could produce SB (which did have flaws but was often brilliant) but make so many terrible mistakes at GL.   I still think JFP would have worked better as a director and music supervisor. Her music work at SB was top notch.  It just seems that Rea was minimized during JFP's tenure because I can't imagine her okaying so many of these casting choices.

    • We see the same with GH, where Mark Teschner, the casting director, reportedly has less say since Frank Valentini took over. Some producers want to take over every aspect of their shows.  I think Lando may have been a CBS push.
    • No idea but she won Emmys & she was the Casting Director at the same time for both ATWT & GL. She hired Lisa Brown with no job for her. Then Marland made Brown his muse so he created both Iva & Nola for her. But, I think we know that Jill does what Jill wants.
    • I did notice a decline in the quality of the performers being cast once Betty R vacated/retired from her position. We would have been spared from the nightmares of some of the castings that dominated the show in the last decade or so of the soap. JFP was an example of someone, no matter the gender, who had no business being in the position they were in.
    • If Betty Rea was the casting director, why was so much of GL during JFP's reign cast by her? Walker, Deas, Crampton, Lando, etc. JFP takes credit for Dusay as well. What is the point of having a casting director, if you don't let her do her job? What happened when Rea left?
    • So much on here slips my mind but this is the first I remember hearing of Peterson's passing. Very sad. Nell was a thankless role, clearly set up for a cheating storyline with Frank, but Peterson did her best.  Betty Rea Rea was the casting director for the soap opera “Guiding Light” from 1970 to 1996 and simultaneously the casting director for “As the World Turns” from 1979 to 1983.
