June 1, 201213 yr Member They weren't even the first soap canceled that year for goodness sake. Where the OLTLers' sense of entitlement is coming from, I'll never know. No one from GL, ATWT, or AMC has been so childish about their network moving on. As someone who is (obviously, based on my screen name) primarily a fan of OLTL (I literally watched that one soap and no other for years), I will say that I do NOT feel a sense of entitlement at all compared to fans of the aforementioned cancelled soaps. I was actually interning and only catching up through recaps at the time of its cancellation, and while it was obviously upsetting news, I accepted over time (as I have now that it's been off the air for the past few months). I'm going to take a wild guess at why some OLTL fans might possibly seemed more entitled than others: the ratings were going up both when it was cancelled/throughout the summer afterwards (how much is debatable, but still), the thought that, as the so-called "red headed stepchild" of daytime, that their cancellation might not mean as much to others as/be neglected more than AMC's (and they were both cancelled at the same time; so there isn't really any "first" soap cancelled last year, unless you mean that AMC went off/squashed its online pursuit first), and then, having the same people going to GH--and with at least one major OLTL story up in the air--they wanted to make sure it was resolved properly once certain OL characters were announced to be on GH. Now, of course, given what's happened to many of them there, it probably would have been better to leave well enough alone, so we could draw our own conclusions (like with AMC--that way, those fans wouldn't feel they were being left out). I will admit that at times I probably got too carried away with my feelings (internally/offline--I'm VERY careful with what I say online! LOL) on OLTL's cancellation, perhaps because I primarily went to the SOC boards at the time (some nice people there, but it's definitely easy to get caught up in the passion over there--it's a bit different here)--I think it's easier to stay rational about the matter here and at the TWOP boards. Basically, not all OLTL fans are childish and entitled--I hope I don't seem that way, at least! And while I will continue to choose not to watch anything on ABC Daytime outside of The View/GH (partly out of respect for the cancelled soaps, partly because I'm really not that interested in them--it was strongly the former a few months ago), again, actors have to think about their jobs/potential jobs--and that seems to be what Laura was doing here. Hopefully, this made sense to someone around here.
June 1, 201213 yr Member So many CBS soap stars have been on The Talk. Y&R peeps are on it all the time! Y&R did a crossover with The Talk, I think they had Lauren go on there. Not to mention Nick and Pam from B&B going on Let's Make A Deal.

June 1, 201213 yr Member LW's segment, It was crap. Chef Symon talked about how his brother loves gH but then Mario opened his mouth and Said I know daytime audiences didnt like us when started but now that they have moved on, we feel like part of the daytime community. Sorry but thats BS. For all we know LW's contract may specify she has to do publicity on ABC owned talk shows. She may have had no choice to do The Chew. I cut for RS because I think she is more upset for the 800 plus crew that lost jobs from this cabncelation I didn't think it was crap too much. I think perhaps they should have fit Laura in better. I enjoyed the tour of that beautiful house more than anything. Absolutely gorgeous! I always enjoy seeing her husband because he's just a great guy who wants to lay the world at that woman's feet. Again, I loved that damn house. Back to the show, LW could have stepped into the audience and sat down and no one would have noticed because they didn't allow her to do anything. She had to improvise quite a bit. She did a good job with just standing there, but it would have been better had she joined in on the cooking. Make a dish that requires wine. Something, ANYTHING! ANDREA I wish OLTLers would lay the blame where is bleongs on the writer and producer! Or they could simply reconcile themselves with the FACT that ABC does not want to do soaps any longer. ANDREA
June 1, 201213 yr Member Laura's known her husband since high school, if I remember correctly. And they're both from Maryland like I am--about an hour and a half or so from where I grew up--which I definitely think is very cool . Or they could simply reconcile themselves with the FACT that ABC does not want to do soaps any longer. If you mean just the cast/crew, I'd say the majority of them probably have. If this includes the fans--it isn't easy, of course, but I definitely have, too .
June 1, 201213 yr Member I'd still rather see the last years of GL than The Talk (ATWT, well, the last year was OK), but since none of the P&G actors have been complaining about the show, I don't have much to say.
June 1, 201213 yr Member I wish OLTLers would lay the blame where is bleongs on the writer and producer! The show would've been canceled no matter who was writing. It was under budget and ratings continued moving upwards after the cancellation had been handed down and ABC still let it go. Why blame them?

I'm sure it's not easy, so if I seemed insensitive, you have my sincerest apologies. That certainly was not my intention. I just don't like the juvenile behavior of SOME. This has gone on for far too long, but like you, I have difficultly letting go. Cartini's Carly is emotionally hard for me, so I tuned out. Of course, I hope she resurfaces, but if she doesn't, I'm already tuned out. I absolutely love LW as Carly, and those clowns came in and turned her into Blair 2.0. Who the f**k was hankering for that? Ugh! Then they all but write Shawn out. Asswhipes! Stepping away from the keyboard for a bit... ANDREA

June 1, 201213 yr Member I'm of two minds on GL & ATWT vs. The Talk and Let's Make a Deal--on one hand, I only watched GL for about a year, and ATWT was my grandmother's soap, but on the other hand, there have been guests I like on The Talk (Mackenzie Phillips, Tatum O'Neal), and I can't hate Sara Gilbert no matter what--she's Darlene Conner, for God's sake! And well, I'm a game show fan--I haven't watched this version, but I want to be able to form an opinion on the show itself, not base it on another show's cancellation (not entirely, anyway). And truthfully, while back in the day if I had been around during the time The Secret Storm was on and had been a fan, I would have been upset when it was cancelled and replaced by Tattletales--but again, I've watched Tattletales reruns and liked it well enough, I guess. If only because Bert Convy was sex on a stick when he was alive, LOL. Edited June 1, 201213 yr by MissLlanviewPA

If only because Bert Convy was sex on a stick when he was alive, LOL. I really appreciate Sara as a host. I have not ever watched LMAD, but when I was off from work for 6 months, I tuned into The Talk everyday. It came on opposite OLTL, and I opted for The Talk. There was no way I was going to watch OL and be happy about it. ANDREA
June 1, 201213 yr Member I would much rather watch The Talk than the final years of ATWT. I'd still rather see the last years of GL than The Talk And I'd rather watch reruns of L&O, House or Angel than any of them. What's done is done. Soaps are dead and they are dead for a reason. Strasser has continued the growing tradition of making the OLTL "people" look desperate, entitled and bitter.
June 1, 201213 yr Member It seems like it's mostly just Robin who speaks out. Most of the others don't say as much. I guess she has a lot of anger at ABC going beyond OLTL's cancellation.
