These days, families come in all forms – single dads, double moms, sperm donors, egg donors, one-night-stand donors… It’s 2012 and anything goes. Bryan (Andrew Rannells, “Girls,” “The Book of Mormon”) and David (Justin Bartha, “The Hangover”) are a Beverly Hills couple and they have it all. Well, almost. With successful careers and a committed and loving partnership, the one thing missing is a baby. And just when they think the stars will never align, enter Goldie (Georgia King, “One Day”), an extraordinary young woman with a checkered past. A Midwestern waitress and single mother looking to escape her dead-end life and small-minded grandmother (Ellen Barkin, “Ocean’s Thirteen”), Goldie decides to change everything and move to L.A. with her precocious 8-year-old daughter. Desperate and broke – but also fertile – Goldie quickly becomes the guys’ surrogate and quite possibly the girl of their dreams. Surrogate mother, surrogate family. “The New Normal” is produced by 20^th Century Fox Television and Ryan Murphy Productions. Murphy serves as creator/executive producer and director along with executive producer/creator/writer Ali Adler (“Glee,” “Chuck”) and executive producer Dante Di Loreto (“Glee,” “American Horror Story”).

This could have some potential.

Ryan Murphy = garbage. And ugly stereotypes.

Even if this is good, it will not stay good past 6 episodes - tops.

The cast however, is fantastic.

The New Normal has tapped One Life to Livealum and stand-up comedienne Jackie Hoffmanto play the mother of Justin Bartha's character, David, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

The New Normal centers on gay couple David and Bryan (Andrew Rannells) who use a surrogate, young mom Goldie (Georgia King), to have their first child.

Hoffman, 51, will appear on the show's fifth episode in the possibly recurring role of Frances, David's sometimes smothering mom. Frances adores her only child and is thrilled to learn she is going to be grandma. However, she and Bryan don't always see eye to eye, though the two will attempt to work things out now that a baby is on the way.

David's mom is one of several extended family members viewers will meet on The New Normallater in the season. The half-hour comedy also recently added Jayson Blair, who plays Goldie's husband, as a series regular.

Hoffman recurred on One Life to Live in 2009 as Eunice and has also guest-starred on Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, Raising Hope and, most recently, Melissa & Joey.

The New Normal first previewed during the Olympics and will officially premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 9:30/8:30c on NBC.

Oh I remember her, but not mostly from OLTL. She kind of reminds me of the late Mrs. Green Thumbs who used to appear on Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee. She was on during the Go Red Ball (2009).

She also appeared during the protest of Dorian's gay wedding.

More lazy reporting by tv guide if nothing else - its one of the bigger roles she had recently that would jump out on her IMDB page. I wouldn't consider her a vet in the least.

This show was so damn funny! I love Ellen B. & Nene... the cast meshes well and I can't wait for more episodes.

Yup - I think my LOL factor and others just aren't the same. I mainly laughed at Ellen and Nene.
