Unpopular Opinions: 2012 Edition

I'll go first:

B&B

- While not perfect, the show is currently in the best shape it's been in since 2003.

Y&R

- Genie Francis is terrific as Genevieve Atkinson. I know she wasn't well liked in her first few months on her show, but I'm currently watching June 2011 episodes and I LOVE her campy take on the character, despite the overall wretchedness of the storyline. Although I never saw Francis on GH, so I don't have that to compare it to. I'd love to see her on B&B in a Sally Spectra/Jackie Marone type role.

- Phyllis is one of very few characters to actually flourish under MAB (save for the Lucy custody madness). And of course, I still consider La Stafford to be the best actress in daytime.

- Maura West was AT LEAST as miscast as Diane as Shari Shattuck was as Ashley.

I have always had a real fondness for Susan Flannery as an actress, and Stephanie as a character (although she has stopped being a character in recent years), but I've never bought Eric/Stephanie. He spent years trying to get away from her and I preferred her with other men. Honestly, I've never liked Eric - he just seems so cheesy to me.

Yeah, John McCook/Eric is definitely the least important of the "original four" and he's lucky he's still around.

Only because of the way Brad neglects and humiliates him (and I've always kind of assumed it's McCook's choice not to work much these days). Whenever he is given something decent to play, he's great.

I'm sure that's a big part of it but I never cared all that much even when B&B was at its peak. There's something about his work which just makes it tough for me to invest, it's like a parody of a soap actor. I think his best work was as the game show host on Alice.

Eric & Stephanie were more believable before Flannery started playing Stephanie like a butch prison matron in a bad Women Behind Bars movie.

To me they were one of those couples who shouldn't have reunited. The whole premise of B&B was about their marriage being a lie and how they shouldn't be together (IMO), and I thought Stephanie was better when they brought in the homeless guy.

So accurate.

I wouldn't have minded them getting back together at some point if B&B hadn't ruined Eric & focused so much on Stephanie.

But then Stephanie isn't believable in a relationship with anybody now.

I thought one of those moments which you can't go back from was when they said Eric had been conning Stephanie for years, or whatever it was they said - didn't they say this around the time Massimo came in? Or am I wrong? I can't remember. It seems like Brad Bell just wants to ignore that whole Massimo story.

They've done so much damage to so many couples it's hard to keep up.

It seems like Brad Bell just wants to ignore that whole Massimo story.

He pretty much has to.

He spent almost 5 years making The Marones a core family (including de-Forresterizing Ridge) only for it to all end as one big failure.

GH: I have loved Laura Wright's Carly from day one. She revitilized the character and is one of the main reasons I watch. Her Emmy was long overdue.

OLTL should have brought back LK's Cassie instead of GT's Kelly.

They definitely should have, although they may have thought she was too old, or they felt that since Gina was popular on GL, she would be on OLTL. She was always a huge black hole on OLTL, from her first scene to her last.

Ok here goes, without having read most of yours yet:

--All My Children was in FAR better shape in its last six months than One Life to Live was. I'm sorry, but OLTL has been unrecognizable for YEARS and the only good thing they had going still was Dorian/David. But Strasser was gone for the last 6 months. AMC, while not the greatest soap in the universe, still had heart and long-term storytelling, OLTL was and is a mishmash of crap. Unfortunately, the show that replaced AMC ended up being a success and the opposite is true of the Revolution.

--As The World Turns left before it's time and was the Best Soap on the air from mid-2009 until its final eppy. Of the last 5 soaps to leave the airwaves (PAS, GL, ATWT, AMC, OLTL), ATWT is head & shoulders above the rest.

--Jacqueline MacInnes Woods is not a great actress but is the perfect B&B actress. She has chemistry with every man on the show except, of course, the pairings she's being forced into (Liam/Rick). I'm afraid that Bradley is gonna do the same thing with Bill/Steffy that he did to Thorne/Brooke.

--I'm so OVER people forgetting how bad previous regimes actually were. MAB's Y&R has had moments of greatness sprinkled through the Sh!t. LML completely DECIMATED the show to the point of it being unrecognizable. Did LML use Jess Walton AT ALL? Did MTS get ANY Emmy-Worthy material out of LML? Did LML create even ONE character for the show that had staying power? Does even ONE of LML's storylines still resonate on the show today? And no, the Nick/Phyllis affair doesn't count because we ALL know that it was born out of a Jack Smith storyline.

--Michael Muhney is not a good actor, is not good casting, and is not better than Chris Engen in the role of Adam. Unfortunately, the show miscast the character twice, should have rested him, let him pay for his crimes, and had him come back with a new actor in the role. Perhaps the guy who's now playing Ricky?

--The last truly GREAT storyline that DAYS had was Hope vs Carly segwayed into Nighttime Hope segwayed into the Prison Coverup storyline. I'm DYING for DAYS to bring back Gina Gallego as Warden Jane to torture Hope again. Now THAT was a villainess that could have gone places.

--DAYS should have fired Lauren Koslow instead of Louise Sorel. I'm sorry, but Koslow, even after over a decade of playing her, simply IS NOT KATE and never will be. Deborah Adair, where art thou? I recently re-watched the Laura/Kate connection reveal and it was POWERFUL as all get out. Koslow has never played a shred of a layer of Kate and I don't understand how anyone can enjoy her portrayal. Oh, and Stefano/Kate could've been a great coupling I guess, but they're not. They suck.

More to come. Switching over to the better computer LOL.
