DAYS: Will & Sonny Spoiler Thread

OK, all I can do with that quote is laugh. Really show? Starsky & Hutch, the Hardy Boys? What is this the 70s? The only thing I can say is that I hope they keep Will in EJ's orbit, because if he (Will) is phased out of EJ's orbit and permanently placed in teen detective/mystery mode, I sure won't be watching him. Please - Days - don't take away my duplicitous/scheming/interesting Will. I beg of you!

Chandler my dear...love your hot face and chest but your story has been done before...I see nothing new....no matter how much you take EJs orders you will still be squeaky clean Will......there is no risk the story is taking.......risk would be for Ej and Will to hit the sack.....or make Chad bi and have a threeway with Sonny.....now that is taking a risk

I'm going to cut him some slack. He's young. Either he's not aware that - most recently - both ATWT and OLTL have done this story, and in OLTL's case, Kyle Lewis was a very bad boy who really could have gone toe-to-toe with EJ or he's just parroting what he's heard TPTB say and know that is the official company line. Personally, I think its a combination of the two.

No, having Will be victimized by a group of guys who beat and then sodomize him on the night he and Sonny are supposed to make love would be a risk.

Woah. That wouldn't even work on Daytime. Maybe Primetime cable, like HBO or Showtime, but NBC's audience isn't ready for that - I don't think any basic network is to be honest. Maybe CBS in a detached, dejected way in hindsight (i.e. the event happened off screen) on one of their crime network shows like Cold Case, CSI and Law & Order. That idea is far too radical for a soap to see on screen. I would say it would be interesting if Chad got drunk and he slept with Will, that would be as "risky" as NBC could go IMO.

I could see that ...Will being attacked for being gay the night he and Sonny are going to do the deed....but NBC doesnt have the balls to do it....I agree with you thats a risk

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is part of the problem. There's a tremendous disconnect between the audience and what "the suits" think is their threshold for controversy. Must we see the actual, graphic attack? Of course not. There are ways around it. But when I think about what COULD happen if Will were the victim of a vicious hate crime, how it would impact certain characters' lives -- not just Sonny and Will and their relationship, but anyone with any emotional investment (seriously, can't you just SEE Sonny turning to Adrienne for help with getting through to Will, or Kate getting angry with the police and everyone else for refusing to call it the rape that it is, or Sami and Marlena reaching out to Will by recounting their own, personal ordeals with rape?) -- two thoughts enter my mind: 1) isn't this the kind of controversial, gut-wrenching, history- and character-driven material soaps are built for?; and 2) how pathetic is it that even as soaps are dying, TPTB simply refuse to take an effing risk?

I'd be worried about the stereotyping issue if they did a story in which Will was raped, and there was an HIV/AIDS scare. I'd prefer if they allowed Will some happiness, and then the rug was pulled out from under him instead of the opposite.

No HIV scare. For one thing, Marland did that on AS THE WORLD TURNS after Margo was raped. For another, as much as I want to push the envelope (in a SMART way), I am also very concerned about the image of a gay man possibly contracting AIDS through sexual contact and what it might do for viewers. If anyone were to turn up HIV positive, I'd rather it be former porn star Nicole; and even then, I'd want it to happen after she has the marriage and family she's always wanted.

Same goes for one of Will's attackers falling in love with him. He can uncover his own, conflicted feelings about his sexuality and fall in love with Will, but if Will ever reciprocated those feelings, I think I might just cut someone.

Whitesell lasts six months (approximately) before P&G moved him to AW for two years where he primarily worked with DePriest. Whitesell was replaced on Search by no daytime experience David Lawrence who closed out the show's last six months.

    • I assume in name only?  One Stormy Night wasn't exactly steamy.  If it's a literal throwback then Stephanie's writing about sexy times her own Uncle was having lol. Since I am going to surmise it's just a throwback to the name, Night Sins and Winter Heat both sound sexier.  Just saying.  I swear Jamey (and Ron) just google things and land on the first thing they like and decide it's a good throwback to history without watching it.
    • I usually don't want Tide placement in the middle of an intense sad scene, but this is an interesting point

    • Thanks!   Was anyone watching during this time? Wondering how Peggy’s rape played out onscreen. It just seems cruel to subject the Brooks family to this trauma a 2nd time.   Feels like the writers have already given up on the character of Jennifer, even though she sticks around another year-plus. She should be a passionate and fierce protective mother, but instead she seems just reactionary (and not even mentioned in this recap) This was also the case in ‘73 when Chris was raped. The writers are definitely more invested Stuart as the Brooks parent.
    • BTG got another SNL reference at 00:50  CONTEXT (so it isn't misconstrued) in this joke swap segment, Michael Che frequently makes his white cohost Colin Jost read racist jokes written by Che.
