January 31, 201214 yr Member He came back Asa's funeral, wasn't that a good reason? yes it was and considering the long history Max had with Asa, it was very appropriate
January 31, 201214 yr Member He came back Asa's funeral, wasn't that a good reason? I didn't believe he'd come back for that, since most of his last few years in Llanview were about tragedy and the basic extent of his relationship with Asa was pulling cons on him. I also didn't believe that he suddenly wanted to be with Blair. It seemed like a waste of time.

I do agree that him trying to hook back up with Blair was odd.
January 31, 201214 yr Member I will be petty/mean/unpopular and say I do not want Bobbie/JZ back unless she can somehow fix the damage she did to her face. Looking at her was literally painful.

I think him trying get back with Blair showed that he kept up with the going ons in Llanview and wanted Blair to leaving all her Llanview troubles in Llanview and come with him. January 31, 201214 yr Member I'd forgotten his bond with Renee. I guess that's down to how he torched it during that awful fake heir/brain tumor story.

I've seen for ages how fans complained that Bobbie and Monica were hardly being used while Tracy was only there because of Luke. But one can't overlook the fact that of the three women, Tracy is the only one who can still emote with her face and carry a scene. I'm looking forward to this return simply because Bobbie has always been my favourite character - but I agree that she is hard to look at now. I also feel sorry for her knowing part of the problem is a surgery that didn't go as was expected. I so wish aging actors didn't feel the pressure to go there, because the reality is they end their own careers. At the end of the day those with wrinkles are getting the roles.

Edited January 31, 201214 yr by remos
January 31, 201214 yr Member Its one of the reasons I dont want to see her in a romance. I find her hard to look at and Ive always loved Bobbie.

January 31, 201214 yr Member Supposedly they wanted to bring Karen Wolek back, and Wanda Webb, both well known old characters, although the rumor also is that Karen's return would have been about Aubrey, the most pointless character ever on OLTL. Wanda couldn't return because the actress was making a film. Other than that, most of their returns were brief, or poor, or both. Alex Olanov returned several times over the years for no apparent reason other than giving her useless long-lost children. Lindsay appeared a few times. Troy, a pointless return. Mitch had several bad returns. So did Allison Perkins. Tina returned twice, the first botched, the second was good but that seems to be because she couldn't stay long, since RC's plans for her sounded pretty questionable. Cord returned a few times. Max returned once, for no reason, then when he should have come back (at the end of the show), the actor wasn't asked. Nathan Fillion's return as Joey was decent enough. I think he was back for a week. Most of the major returns (Carlo, Marty, Kelly) were bad, or quickly fell apart (Todd), and the returns of Pamela and Lee were poor and cheap, ending with them being murdered and it being some type of weird joke. The returns of Powell, Rebecca, and Zach were lousy and managed to piss all over one of the show's most acclaimed storylines, and once again turned into weird camp. Sometimes I'm sure they did have plans that were killed. For instance, the return of Cassie, Dorian's daughter, which I've seen praised, was essentially Cassie sitting on a plane, Cassie walking to the airplane toilet, and Cassie standing in a room with Dorian. Other than giving me a good laugh, and assuring me that Cassie has good bowels, I got nothing out of that. Generally I'd be wary of any returns RC or FV are involved in. I guess their most successful return was Tea. She was exactly the same character as she was in the late 90's, and they spent plenty of time building up her relationship with TSJ's Todd. Don't forget the ghosts! (Gabrielle, Megan, and Luna) Of course, Gabrielle's could have been MUCH better for me, and y'all know I pretty much worship at the altar of Gabrielle Medina Holden Holden Buchanan . I didn't believe he'd come back for that, since most of his last few years in Llanview were about tragedy and the basic extent of his relationship with Asa was pulling cons on him. I also didn't believe that he suddenly wanted to be with Blair. It seemed like a waste of time. In my head, I saw the Blair thing as his way of going back to someone familiar, as his true loves--Gabrielle and Luna--were gone forever, and Tina was MIA at the time, so it was a desperate attempt to hang on to a part of his past. I kind of want to write a fanfic of him about his life in Argentina--happy to have raised his other two kids, but always broken over Al's death and how he never reunited with Gabrielle (hence why he moved back to her home country), which led him to a few difficult years in the dating scene down there, as he was still trying to deal with his grief. Then, shortly after the funeral, he finds out Gabrielle is alive, and she forever holds the fact that he hit on Blair at the funeral over his head--in a loving way, of course . Then, hints are dropped that Al might be alive, too. See, Soapboy? Two can play at the favorite character story games! Edited February 1, 201214 yr by MissLlanviewPA

Thanks for reminding me. I didn't see any real purpose in those returns, although I appreciated seeing Megan/Viki one last time and I thought Luna filled her role effectively, with Susan Batten giving a spirited performance. It was great to see Gabrielle but I didn't quite understand what she was doing. I can't help wondering if there WERE plans to bring back JdP which just fell through. But at least their return didn't amount to going to the toilet. Edited January 31, 201214 yr by CarlD2

I STILL think they should have had Max come back to visit Cord and Tina, perhaps after their wedding, and then see Luna and Gabrielle's ghosts (separately, of course). Or even have him see Luna's ghost, who drops him hints someone he loves is alive--and in comes Gabrielle. I promise, someday I'll just start an M&G fanfic page and let the stories out of my head for all of you to see .
January 31, 201214 yr Member Oh, I forgot about Erin Torpey returning for a minute so that David Fumero could have an exit. That was one to treasure.
February 1, 201214 yr Member What a classy way to say, it. I agree. But I definitely am excited for Bobbie to return. Why thank you Baby Boy. One doesn't prelude the other, but that doesn't mean it isn't noticable… sadly. And definitely ditto on the excitement. I want some interactions amoung all the Spencermaines…. immediate and extended.
