Days: Coming Out In Salem

it's one thing to be slow paced when a character actually has substantial airtime, but it's a whole different story when that character is on like once or twice every two weeks. I don't believe for one second there will be an actual build-up, stuff will just take place in February simply because Will has such a short amount of airtime and sporadic air dates....he is no Sami in that respect.

The story sounds Higley-esque to me.

I found Higley's Days to be more entertaining than the current snoozefest

It's the layout which reminds me of Higley, mostly - a supporting character who is there to say, "Gay is OK," while the main gay character is horribly damaged, with the implication that part of this is due to his being gay.

Uh, am I the only one who likes a slow, realistic pace? DAYS is still looking like it's paced by meth addicts compared to, say, very old Ryan's Hope. But by today's ADD standards, it is a carefully paced, realistic old school soap opera - and it's done well. It seems "slow" compared to other soaps because it's actually good and delves into people and issues, IMO.

Luke and Noah never worked because they forced it immediately and the writing sucked. Frankly, I love the idea of Will as the damaged young gay antihero - soaps have been too safe with these characters for too long.

I like a slow pace too. I think the problem some have with the pace is that the stories themselves may not be worth the long time spent telling them.

The idea of a young gay antihero can be interesting (although I'm a little jaded because I detested what they did with this story on Emmerdale), I just don't think it fits Will. It comes across as wanting to tell a story about a toxic gay character and just throwing the story at Will.

I dont even think its that there is a slower pace in terms of story. Just because the show may drag something out for 6 months doesnt make it a slower pace. where is the mayors race storyline? At this point its gotten a total of maybe 4 days of airtime. The JJD triangle is uninteresting and I dont even recognize Jennifer. Heck I enjoyed her stuff with carly more. And Higley was a disaster but one of the things she did right was Sonny's intro to the canvas and at this point I have no clue if he even exists anymore. I like CM and hope this story works for him but in terms of antihero Chad probably would have worked better in that kind of role.

Chad with this story, or a twisted fling between Chad/Will, would have made more sense. They have sex, and Chad moves on, but Will still wants him. EJ finds out, and uses this, and Will is hurting and confused and angry. It would also break up Chad/Abby and ideally send the world's oldest teenager off the canvas (if Jack and Jennifer need a child on the show just have their son join).

Of course not. I love stories that take their time getting told. I was worried whether "Will is gay" was happening at all, not whether it was happening fast enough.

It seems "slow" compared to other soaps because it's actually good and delves into people and issues, IMO.

I'd agree. They're laying the foundation nicely for this, rather than just have Will fall out of the bushes one afternoon with some random porn actor under-five.

Luke and Noah never worked because they forced it immediately and the writing sucked.

So. Much. WORD.

Frankly, I love the idea of Will as the damaged young gay antihero - soaps have been too safe with these characters for too long.

"Word" on that, too (although I do have minor reservations with Will becoming the anti-hero now rather than sooner). However, for this to work for me, I need Will's eventual love interest (provided, he gets one) to be the "Laura" to his "Luke" (but without the rape), if that makes any sense.

I sincerely believe that Corday/Meng/whoever pulled back on this story when they changed writers, because Higley had some insane plan that they did NOT want to happen. So it's been in a holding pattern for months.

Higley probably wanted Will to be gay and a serial rapist.

I don't mind if the story takes it time as long as we get a payoff. Luke and Reid took forever only for him to die at the end. That's what I call bloody murder by Goutman and Co.

Of course I didn't want to see Will drop his laptop and Sonny picks up and Sonny has the hots for him or vice versa but there is no signs Will is into guys....

I did like his scenes today with grandma though....lol

For a minute there I thought he was going to blurt out ala LUke that he was gay as Marlena fell down some steps....

Perhaps. As I said before, I have reservations with this transformation happening to Will now rather than, say, during the Sheffer era (or even sooner). Aside from that, though, Sami and Lucas's son being the young gay antihero doesn't bother me as much as it should.

Actually, I think I would have preferred Sonny in that role. If I were writing this, Sonny would be gay and a lothario, like his father before him; and Will would be the one to make him think seriously about monogamy for the first time in his life.

Freddie told sara bibel that his generation likes to be friends and make love so maybe Sonny Likes to date around and not do relationships
