August 10, 201114 yr Member The casting and tone of the show is key here. It needs to be done with a certain level of earnest and realism the original did, not self aware over the top comedy and slapstick like the movie.
August 10, 201114 yr Member Every attempt to remake this has failed. Girl With Something Extra, Tabitha, that abortion of a movie. Don't they get the hint? No wonder TV is the pits.
August 10, 201114 yr Member Quit making remakes of classic shows Hawaii Five-o....failure Charlie's Angels...looks like a big failure...hate the previews Wonder Woman....didnt even make the cut What else am I missing??
August 10, 201114 yr Member Well it could only be better than that horrible movie. But this is not necessary.
August 10, 201114 yr Member As much of a fan I was, we all were, of the original TV series, the movie was extreeeeeemely painful to watch. I'm afraid that the proposed tv series will fare no better.

Is Hawaii Five O a failure? I don't watch it but its doing ok isn't it? They fortunately scrapped the planned remake of the Rockford Files with Dermot Mulroney. James Garner was that show I hate remakes because even with marginal success, they never capture the magic of the original.
August 10, 201114 yr Member Hawaii Five-0 isn't a failure by a long shot. I'm gonna hold out and see how they do this. As long as they keep it in light romantic comedy mode and avoid going head first into sci-fi mythology and the like, it could be a fun update.

Well...it was winning its timeslot but the ratings started going down and lost its timeslot to ABC and sometimes even to NBC. Edited August 10, 201114 yr by Soapsuds
August 10, 201114 yr Member Hawaii 5-0 isn't necessarily a failure, but it's not doing as well as it was suppose to. CBS may not do a remake. There were some talks about them doing a remake of Wild Wild West. Just because people say they wish shows today were more like the ones in past, that doesn't mean they want remakes of beloved shows. August 10, 201114 yr Member Well...it was winning its timeslot but the ratings started going down and lost its timeslot to ABC and sometimes even to NBC. When did it lose to NBC. It started going down because it's lead in lost Two and a Half Men. It was still doing fine though. It already has a syndication deal with TNT.

Harry's Law started beating it as well. TAAHM had some to do with it but if HFO was that great of a show people would have still watched the new episodes. JMO

August 11, 201114 yr Member Totally agree that the key to the shows success was Elizabeth Montgomery who can't be replaced, and the fact that the show was totally sincere and for a show like this, logical in its premise. Bewitched wouldnt work as well in these cynical times where every reference has to be ironic. Look at that dumbass Sabrina show..it just never gelled, (besides the fact that it was stupid and the lead actress said every line in the exact same way, as if it was a joke or a set up to a joke) Also, what new plots could the writers come up with, we have seen each and everyone hundreds of times by now, and even after the 5th year, the original was doing the same plots over and over again, sometimes by barely changing a script. While the movie bit the big one it was more because of the writers insistence on making the show within the movie. Besides the Darrin part, the movie was pretty well cast and the references to the show were spot on, like someone involved with the production actually loved the old show. Hopefully it will be the poeple involved (and I would love to see Amy Sedaris in an extended take on Gladys Kravitz!!!)
