But that's why the show is being canceled right? Ad rates have dropped to the point that I could afford to advertise during the show. One thing I've noticed is the low quality of ads during the last few years. Seems like fewer and fewer national brands are advertising during the soaps. Switch over to TNT's repeats though and their are plenty of ads geared towards the traditional daytime audience. That's just my observation, but it's what I've noticed.

I guess it is a vicious cycle. "the daytime audience is not online". Hello, it is 2011! Who wants to advertise to people who are not in the market to buy anything actually new?

Is it doing that well?

It's doing about the same or better than ATWT but I think this and The Chew are just going to be cheap filler to help ease the networks out of daytime altogether. If they weren't then more care would be taken in finding good product.

You said it yourself, it's doing as well or better than ATWT. That's all that matters because these shows are cheap to make. Don't get me wrong, I think all of these talk/reality shows are crap that I will NEVER watch. I'm just saying they are giving the networks a better bottom line and that is all they care about. Will they eventually give all of daytime back to the affiliates? Seems like that could very well happen. I don't claim to know anything about that, but the idea that this PP deal is all some big conspiracy to protect The Chew? Umm, no.

I think The Talk, with the wife of CBS' president, and all the panelists, is costing a bit more than the average filler show, but I see your point. The problem is if these shows are only doing about as well as ATWT in demos or ratings, then even if it's cheaper, they will ultimately not be sustainable. I think the networks are slowly looking for a way out.

I do agree that ABC isn't doing this to protect The The. They just wanted to make some fast money on their soap library, without having to spend any money. I'm just glad that my fears they would never sell (out of spite/control freak issues) seemed to be untrue.

I knew this would eff up the finale <_< I doubt it's going to make people want to tune if say Jesse & Angie are left with a cliffhanger

But hasn't Agnes already said, weeks and weeks ago, that the finale would have cliffhangers? She was quoted on this.

  • Member

She said something about writing like it was continuing on.

I personally think they need to just write a finale and not worry about it continuing on, cause that's a different AMC.

I think SL will be there to get it started and not much else

ARGH that's awful. They haven't given us any indication on how this will work or if it will, and instead of ending things on a good note... This is disappointing. There is closure, and then there is keeping it way too open. Not everyone is going to make the switch right away if at all.

Hmmm...not fair for those who dont have internet access to watch it.

Kind of cruel if you ask me even though they didnt know the show was going online.

I wonder if they are going to get RC and FV to continue with OLTL online.

Exactly! This utterly stupid. They have NO idea what actor's are continuing on, if any do, they certainly aren't giving people much incentive to watch.

I sure don't see RPG & CS continuing on

It sounds damn near impossible/illogical to think that they'll have a show up and running by 9/26 even if they're able to sign everyone by August. For one, if PP's planning on launching it's own portal, you can't run a portal with just one show. I don't see it debuting this year, but if it were to I'd probably bet on a November debut.

Yeah that seems awfully fast, which doesn't fill me with much hope that this will be too great of a product

Oh and Craputhers continuing on? EPIC FAIL

In RPG's case, that can only HELP the venture B)

The Save our Soaps people got their wish... a temporary stay of execution which in the process will probably rob this legacy show and its fans a proper NETWORK send-off.

I want to see how they pull this off.

+1 to the bolded part.
