That quote of Elliot's is so idiotic. People are not moving to cable because it's reality tv, they're moving to it because it's one of the few places where the creators of shows are largely free to write what they want, without network mandates. I find it all the more ridiculous now that I know he's the host of that flop talk show in the 90s.

I am not against recasts, but I do think that recasting a rack of characters would be a mistake. It would be really dizzying at first, which we'd all get used to, but even moreso, I think it would imply that all of these characters were working so damn well that they just *had* to be salvaged, and I disagree with that. I'm actually quite disappointed with the same sh!t, different format news we're getting about OLTL. We need change. Anyway... if we lose RB as Greenlee, well, they *could* recast her but they could just as easily put Ryan with a new female lead. This show bends over backwards for Ryan, ain't nothin' but a word. I might even balance out Greenlee's loss while boosting Jack's worth by bringing on a new young vixen in the form of a recast Ava (Jack takes her in out of his loyalty to her sister) and perhaps a recast Reggie (Ava and Reggie end up screwing under the same roof). I hope there's a lot of thinking outside the box going on. These shows need to move forward, not sideways.

Agnes seems to have been kinda revitalized by all this. A few years ago, it actually worried me whenever we'd see her on tv, she seemed so weak, but this past year she really seems to have recovered some of her strength. Even comparing her '08 OLTL cameo to her most recent one on AMC.

I don't know if she's up for the challenge. She has improved as an actress (from the tiny bits we see), but... Still, I am glad if it means PP is hiring non-white actors as well.

I will forever be thankful to Juan simply because he was so much better than his brother Carlos. But I agree (except for your Griffin hate, but I've gotten used to that :P )

I also think sometimes actors who suck on soaps, can do much better on primetime or in movies where they have the luxury of memorising less, more retakes, shorter scenes, etc. (After his OLTL stunt I never though Brandon Routh would be a decent movie actor, and he is). Natalie Colby (aka Natalie Hall :P ) is a really strong Broadway talent, who can sing (not that AMC made that clear) and dance like crazy. I saw her in the tour of A Chorus Line where she was fantastic.

There is no way these shows will get 1 million people watching online. Now maybe on a cable network like Bravo with some good companion programming but Dirty Soap is barely hitting 700k viewers. But then that is the E network and I don;t know how well the network does and thats also an unestablished reality show.

Seriously they should just lose some of the characters like greenlee where the actors don't want to move on. She really doesn't have any major ties to the canvas and they could bring on a new female and tie her to the Martins, Tylers(with Brooke around) or the Courtlandts(with Nina on canvas too.

I don't think they'll get a big rating either but I'm not sure Dirty Soap is a gauge. The show is warmed over and overedited bites with several not all that likeable C-listers in the soap world. It's also at a time when people seem to be losing interest in reality stuff.

    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).

    • I liked them, too, and was really disappointed it never went anywhere. The whole art theft story was ridiculous, but they had a nice chemistry. Certainly nicer than Alan with Christine. With her, he looked like the funny uncle. The worst thing they did to Bolger, IMO, was having Phillip write that DREADFUL novel and dramatizing it while he wrote it. GAG, that has to be in the running for one of their worst storylines that didn't involve wacky things like clones or time travel. Soaps rarely do school storylines, or don't do them for very long. Not the case so much in the early days of soaps, but after GH took off in the late 70s other soaps took their lead and would catapult teens/young adults into adult stories right away. That's one reason Phillip and Mindy ended up with so many ex-spouses--they started getting married really young. They shipped Dina and Cameron off really fast after high school and stuck Alan Michael in a marriage storyline with Harley. Did he EVER go to college? I don't think so. It may also partly explain why Quint and Annabelle had to go, beyond TPTB wanting to do a cast sweep. Teaching is not a profession that plays well on a soap. Quint definitely had to quit being Indiana Jones, because that wore thin really fast, but they didn't do him favors by making him a professor. If they wanted to keep him, they should have done what they did with Amanda (who was in another dead-end soap job, concert pianist)--have him work at Spaulding as one of the major stockholders.
    • Judith McConnell (Augusta) and Denise Alexander (Lesley) were great screen partners on GH.  They got into some stellar arguments in character in the medicine room.
    • He also commented that Brad knows that fans are sick of the constant fake deaths on this show: Finn, Sheila, etc and that it's hard to take this seriously if it's another fake death

    • I just don't think Brad Bell has it in him to actually kill off Liam. He should have killed off Eric when he had the chance. I know John McCook is an original cast member, but Eric is even more useless than Liam. Eric should have died and then it would be revealed that he died without a valid will, so Donna, as his wife, inherits everything, including his shares in Forrester Creations.
    • I think we all will, isn't that how soaps work? lol
    • ^^ I'll believe it when it actually happens.
