I didn't mean old episodes because I'm not sure how much control PP has over those. I meant new episodes. Yes it's a lot, but DVDs are cheap to produce they it's very do-able. And if they just release the new PP episodes episodes manufacture on demand then they lose no money. They just need to get creative with promotion and different ways to make money. There definitely needs to be some sort of Super Soap Weekend type events which is another way they can make money off these shows. And international sales.

If AMC continues to go the way it is, they would be smart to do a spin-off which can be promoted almost like a new show. That'll make it easier to sell to an international market. That's more money. But I'm not too worried. I do think Prospect seems to be doing well from what official news we have. I feel like the end result will be good, I'm just not sure WHAT that means. OLTL by itself or OLTL with a totally new soap (one of the ones they were developing) or AMC with OLTL or AMC at a later date or an AMC spin-off. It's all up in the air.

I also wonder which writers they were working with when developing their own original soaps. Very, very curious about that! New blood? Retired hack? Talented, but unemployed daytime legend? That would give us a better idea of who might be writing these shows. Things like that interest me, not complaining about possibly having to pay or that the shows might be different.

Again, I'm being optimistic, but I really don't think PP would have paid for the AMC brand, sets (which granted could be used on a new show, but I'm sure were cheaper than the AMC lease), rumoured signing Broderick and, sigh, JHC, etc, and decide to just drop the show completely. OLTL is arguably in better shape due primarily to the cast it looks liek they can get, but they would have to hire a new writer and EP.

And the actress who ripped open her blouse and started cursing at people at the end of her last scene. I really really want to know who that was.

It was Shelley Taylor Morgan who was playing Monica's Cousin, Lorena Sharpe on GH. She was Fired in 86 and after last scene told GH FU amd flashed her boobs

According To Jerry Ver Dorn PP said that they are doing Ad Based Revenue and said nothing about charging a fee

As I've pointed out many times before, it appeared that so many initially had pie-in-the-sky fantasies of how good AMC and OLTL were going to be with PP. However, given all the legitmate doubts that I have read, this is certainly no longer the case. I want to commend so many people for this change in attitude.

Even though I am bitter about the P&G soaps not being saved, that was not the reason why I initially came down so hard on those who thought that this PP deal was the greatest thing since sliced bread. (Whether or not you believe me regarding this is up to you.) Instead, I acted the way I did because I wanted to be helpful: nothing is worse than false hope, and I would hate to see the Nixon soap fans get emotionally crushed again after the online runs of these shows (likely) do not resemble what you folks are hoping for. (As somebody who has been crushed many times by false hope in the past, I hate it with a passion.)

For all we know, it might've been Nellie Branco, Pepsi Smash and Sylvester James Jamey Giddens.

I heard it was the performance of her career! :)

I just don't see how it would be cost effective to do DVDs for a program that does 250+ shows a year. Even if they go seasonal, a 20 week season would equal 200 shows. I don't know how anyone could make that work.

Easy.....Blu-Ray my darling ...Blu-Ray!! Blu-Ray discs can hold much more data than a traditional DVD. Even the current widely used 50gb disc can hold about 25 hours of video.....there are also lesser used triple layer and quad layer disc that farrrrrrr surpass that. Also given the ever changing and improving technology......I'll never give up on wishing and waiting for the day I could just pop in a disc and enjoy AMC from the beginning!!!!!

They won't sell well. And the company won't make much money releasing best of DVDs. They need a full release of soaps and that will never happen.

I think it depends on what they release and how it's released. With the right sell I think certain highlight DVDs could sell enough to make a decent profit, especially since these will probably be very cheap to produce. Nostalgia always sells if it's done right.

I remember a lot of talk about how this was going to be a failure even before the news was confirmed. That has continued ever since.

The thing that concerns me about Erika speaking out about Frons is that she's still employed by ABC (until Nov?), so her harsh words could get her in trouble. Perhaps she doesn't care at this point.

With both Slezak and Lucci saying how they feel about Frons and the cancellations, it wouldn't surprise me if we see more people speaking out, though probably not the folks who still hope for employment by ABC Daytime.

About DVD stuff. Music rights are also a factor. It is NOT cheap to get music rights and for that many episodes? I suppose if the people who wrote the music had something in their contract specifying their music can be used ad infinitum that could work..

True. I'm reminded of Quantum Leap. That show was full of popular music from whatever time period that week's episode took place in. When they finally put the show out on DVD they had to switch a lot of it out and fans flipped.

Seriously, though... why are people giving themselves pats on the back for being optimistic, pessimistic, realistic -- WITHOUT A DAMN PIECE OF TANGIBLE INFORMATION?! Then, not only that, but pouncing on the hearsay crumbs that do get tossed out there and grinding them into dust with biased speculation. It really does seem as if things are being built up to such a frickin' crescendo, that anything that does come out of this Prospect Park deal won't live up to the hype. Especially since this is becoming like a bad fanfic... Susan Lucci preening in a mirror, rubbing her thighs, tossing her hair as she demands more money for less work. With the eeeeeevil ABC strong arming Prospect Park into doing their bidding as vengeance on Susan Lucci for speaking out about Frons... With frail little Aggie Nixon, with her independently fluttering eyelids, coming in and kicking major ass in defense of her Susie.

Sure. As soon as you and DeeeDee do the same.

Now that's playing DirrrDee... knowing full well I'd have to be carted off to Bellvue in order for that to happen.
