I can't remember if Dalton was fired or if she wanted to leave since Marland didn't know how to write for her. Nor can I remember if I read this next part on this thread or on another thread a few years go, but had the Dobsons stayed on TGL, they were not planning to write out Elizabeth. Allegedly, the Dobsons did plan to reveal Phillip's true parents during the spring or summer of 1980, as they didn't expect Cindy Pickett to renew her contract. They wanted to be certain they still had all the original players on the canvas when they made the big reveal.
From what I recall, Jackie would have been the one to reveal/blurt out that she and Justin were Phillip's biological parents at some Springfield event, in front of both Phillip and everyone else at this event. I don't know if the Dobsons would have killed off Jackie shortly thereafter or have Jackie flee town and eventully come back with a new Jackie. Initially, Alan, Elizabeth, and Justin would be relied upon to carry on the story from this apparent fallout, along with involvement from Hope and Mike. Yes, allegedly Elizabeth and Mike were still the endgame (after Elizabeth would finally divorce Justin to marry Mike).
This is all I can recall. Who knows how true this is? I really would love to know the story projections the Dobsons had in mind going into 1980.
