Members Max
There are two things about GH's likely cancellation that really preplex me. I was wondering if anybody else agree with me on these points, or if anybody could made me "understand" them better: The first thing that I don't understand is the fact that so many are outraged over GH's likely cancellation. Now, if you really love the Sonny/Jason hour, only then could I understand all this outrage. However, many (if not most) have constantly trashed--and despised--GH for having been "General Mobspital" over the last decade. If this is your view, then the logical reaction over GH's demise would have to be that of relief, not outrage. Simply put, it makes no sense to be livid over the cancellation of a show you hate. (Now, I realize that somebody who hates what GH has become may be upset over the likely cancellation by telling themselves that if GH were still around, there would always be a possibilty that classic storytelling could return. However, this is a pretty weak argument, because--realistically--what are the chances of that ever happening?) The second thing that I don't understand is that assertion (made by some) that Brian Frons wants the cancellation to happen. (I can certainly understand one blaming Frons for the cancellation, since his crappy management is a big reason why it is in dire straights. However, what I am trying to say is that Frons certainly did not want GH's demise to happen.) In actuality, Frons loves GH (despite his gross mismanagement of it) and has done much to indicate that it is his favorite soap (by giving it prefrential treatment). If this is not enough to convince you that Frons wants to keep GH, then all you have to do is point to Anne Sweeny's open desire to have cancelled all three ABC soaps at once this year. When you think about it, there is really no justification for not axing GH, given that its demos and ratings are only a tiny bit higher than those of OLTL. Hence, the only logical reason why GH was spared was because Frons begged Sweeny to give his beloved show one more year (and one more chance). And, if Frons was the one who was most responsible for saving GH (as I indicated previously), then one cannot conculde that Frons wants to cancel the show. Members Cheap21
Where are the people outraged at GH's potential cancellation? People were outraged at AMC and OLTL for being axxed before GH. I think most people here really dont give a damn that GH itself is likely to go. I think most already see the writing on the wall and have accepted its fate. The GH I knew and love got cancelled over a decade ago and got replaced with this souless shell that currently airs after OLTL
Members Mr. Vixen
I agree with Cheap. Will I be sad to see GH go? Very much so. But not the GH that it is now. The GH that I fell in love with many years ago. Because, even though it's a different show completely, it's also the same show, if that makes sense. The end of the Sonny Hour will also represent, the final end to the stories I knew and loved....Luke/Laura, Frisco/Felicia. BJ's Heart. Monica's breast cancer. Heather Webber and the LSD. Lesley and Rick Webber, Robin/Stone, etc etc. So, when Gh is cancelled, all of those things become a memory from a show that is gone. At least now, I still have that little piece of the show I remember. I still go to Port Charles everyday, and I can fondly remember the events that happened at GH or at Kelly's, or whatever set. When GH ends, I will be sad not because of losing what the show has become, but because it will be the final ending to all the reasons I loved GH my entire life. Members reallyhateskateonlost
It sad that many viewers have grown to hate this show. Instead of trying to support it, they bashed it on a regular basis, and will probably give the final cheer of it's demise when the cancelation is finally announced. Members Mr. Vixen
I do not hate GH. I still love the show. I've always supported it. I've never stopped watching, no matter how unsatisfied I was with it. There of elements of it I still enjoy, as well. What makes me truly sad is that TPTB never realized that fans yearned for stories involving GH's history, not total revamps and reworkings. Had they listened to what fans said, GH could be a balanced show. Partially filled with rich storylines featuring characters we've always known and loved, and partially filled with the stories TPTB are more interested in telling. Had there been more balance, the show could have sustained it's audience. Not as many people would have given up and left. That's what makes me more sad than anything. Members beebs
Yea I'll be sad when GH goes. Especially now that I'm able to watch back to when it was at its best. It was a complex, exciting show, and it's become a frustrating, boring turd. I can't support that. I will say that I'll be glad to see the destruction of its legacy finally end, but as it becomes a more and more distant memory, it will be a very sad thing, indeed. The things about GH, like others have said, that I remember and loved have long since been destroyed, and replaced with violent, misogynistic crap that I can't sit through. There's no joy, there's no heart, there's nothing. There's no one in any position of authority who cares who is willing to fight or invest in making it better or turning the tide in the right direction, so really, there's nothing I can do but shake my head in sadness and turn off the TV. Members Cheap21
Its sad whats become of the show. I used to love it but I cant support what its become. I hope it manages to go out with some dignity and hopefully thats what some of the backstage changes will make possible. In its current format, it being cancelled just means one less thing I have to watch. I already dropped the show a few months ago. The Guza/JFP combo has run it into the ground. Members Antoyne
I don't hate GH. I treat it how I treat all the remaining soaps when I watch them. If I watch and like something, I applaud it. If I watch and it annoys me, I change the channel and also comment on what I didn't like....I just happen to skip GH more than usual as of late. Members OldGHFan
I'll be honest. I can't stand GH. I hate Sonny, Carly and Jason and I used to like them in the 90s. I just hate that Guza and Phelps made them the center of the entire show and then threw every other character out with the bath water. I hope GH gets canceled. They deserve to be canceled. My GH died a long time ago. But ideally once GH gets it's cancellation notice, I would like another "Gloria Monty" to sweep down and save it. I know that's not realistic though. Members Juliajms
I'll be sorry that the potential for the show to come back into it's own is gone. I can't be sorry that the mess that is on my screen right now is over.
