I disagree. It's not all about the singing -- it's also about the persona. I don't like someone's music just because they have a nice voice. I only consider myself a true fan of someone if I can relate to and/or respect what they're singing about and their belief in what they're singing... usually people who write their own stuff.

A nice voice is great, but there's much more to being a "star" or an "American Idol" and certainly more to gaining fans than JUST the voice, IMO.

I think that saying Mandisa is a homophobic is a stretch. A big one. And it's reaching, but I bet this will hurt Mandisa down the line, much like second season with Trenyce and her past with the law. I think that hurt her chances, and she was one of the powerful contestabts who left before her time, IMO.

Prince to Perform on 'American Idol'?

Pop superstar Prince will reportedly appear on American Idol to both coach contestants and perform on the hit TV series - in a bid to maintain high album sales. The notoriously shy star has just released his latest LP, 3121, which debuted at the top of the Us Billboard chart. According to PageSix.com, executives from Prince's record company convinced him to appear on the show to keep the album at the top of the charts, after noting a huge spike in album sales when Barry Manilow appeared on the program earlier this year. According to one source, "It wasn't easy though because Prince apparently hates the show and has never even watched it."

----------

Being a huge Prince fan, I'd be glued to my screen for this, but I'm not sure how this would work out. A lot of his really good songs would be too dirty for American Idol and his sounds are very difficult to sing. I can't think of one person there who could do a Prince song.

I wonder if they'll also be doing stuff from his protege's like Vanity/Appolonia 6 and Sheila E. That might help them a little bit.

First off let me just say I love Paula being booed and Simon being cheered for once  . Now I promised I would keep this brief so here it goes:

Taylor-Horrible, all over the place. The fact that he went first too makes me think bottom 3 for him tomarrow.

Mandisa-Her worst performance and again a little choppy. Not horrible but very up and down. I am curious to see how the controversy surrounding her will affect voting.

Elliot-Vocals were ok but I am tiring of him. I like the guy alot don't get me wrong but his songs are always the same and for some reason I always find him forgettable.

Paris: This confused me. Her voice should have been soaring with this song but it didn't. It was muffled at times. I do think she was uncomfortable much like Taylor was in which case I say to both of them pick somgs you are comfortable with. Not bad and she should be safe but her performance kinda confused me.

Ace-Much better then last week. Vocals were ok and he cut down on the flirting and Constantine-like mannerisms. He may still end up in the bottom since he has been twice but he really shouldn't be for tonight's performance.

Kellie-First of all I was happy she explained herself and showed that she wasn't acting dumb even though people think she is. Nonetheless, she has toned it down of late and she was pretty good today which you would think with tonight's theme. Liked her tonight-she is safe.

Chris-So good to see another side of him and he did great. Vocals were nice and it was refreshing. Hope to see him do more different stuff then just rock. He is proving he is versatile which is good if you want to win. He is safe.

Katherine-Liked it, great song choice. Kinda sexy actually. She is growing on me week after week and her vocals are real good. She is safe.

Bucky-Not too bad actually but nothing to special. I am kinda starting to like him but he really should be at least bottom 3.

My bottom three for tomarrow is Bucky, Taylor, and either Paris, Ace, or Mandisa (Mandisa or Paris could be the traditiona shocks and Elliot could be too). I usually like country week but the singers are picking bad songs which seems to be the theme this year. Every week they are picking horrible songs that are boring or just plain never heard of. I don't remember a year when we saw such bad song choices. Oh well hopefully it will be better in the weeks ahead.

Being a country music fan, I loved thonights show.

Bucky - Bucky sounded exactly like Gary Allen. This was his best performance yet.

Kellie - Fancy is a hard song to sing and I think she did great

Elliott - Excellent! Gave the Garth classic a little more soul

Taylor - Yay for singing West Virginia's unofficial song, He did good. I know the judges didn't like it, but what the hell did they expect? You can't rock a John Denver song lol I hav ebeen trying to get in to vote for him for 45 minutes and cant.

Paris - She was okay, but she sure ain't no LeAnn or Trisha

Mandisa - Def wasn't her best performance, but she was alright. If she wanted to do Shania, I think "Rock this Country" would have been a much better choice

Katharine - I liked that Faith Hill song, but I just wasn't feeling it at all (she was a little sexy though)

Chris - boring song, boring performance. With his rock/scruffy voice, he shouldn't have attempted Keith Urban. He should have sang the other Keith (Toby) and rocked the hell out of "How do you like me now"

Ace - What a difference a few weeks make. I was ready for him to pack it up and go home, but he did great tonight and last week. Excellent Keith Urban cover

Bottom Three: Bucky, Paris, and another shocker (Mandisa/Chris/Taylor/Elliott)

    • DePriest left in January 1988. According to the AWHP, Rose last appeared nearly a year before in February 1987 while both Sara and Peggy appeared as late as October 1987.
    • Annie was not brought in as an antagonist for Reva. Reva wasn’t even on the canvas when Annie first appeared in late 1994.
    • The speculation……….very entertaining.
    • I had forgotten that several Days stars came out strong against Melissa. Good for them!
    • That would have made sense. Did all these characters get dropped when DePriest left or had they already been dropped?
    • The other issue with Missy: in June 2020, she "liked" some social media posts by Candace Owens -- things Candace said that were against Black Lives Matter.  That is described here https://tvline.com/news/melissa-reeves-racism-days-of-our-lives-instagram-controversy-2894568/ I don't know if that was ever resolved.
    • She appeared onscreen not long after Rose Livingston and Sara Montaigne, and we found out that Sara was Rose's estranged daughter. I wonder whether Peggy might have been part of that family group -- or else they were just juggling a few different potential mysteries so that they could develop whatever seemed to be getting the best response from the audience. They didn't do anything much with Rose and Sara really either. Maybe Rose would have become more prominent if Rachel and Mac had split up over Mitch, or if Sara had really flourished. In some ways I can picture Cheryl being affected by MJ's prostitution similarly to how Josie was distressed by finding out about Sharlene. But I can also see that Josie as a Frame being involved with Matthew would have different stakes for Rachel and Sharlene than Cheryl being involved with Scott. I do think the solution for Cheryl would have had to be a badder boy than Scott -- either a real bad boy who would do her wrong, or the kind of bad boy (not Chad!!!) who is essentially misunderstood and other people just don't understand. Cheryl would also have been better off with some friends her own age. Matthew and Josie benefited a bit from having other teenagers to interact with.
    • Sally Spencer was a decent actress, but the writing destroyed the "M.J." that Kathleen Layman had built. Layman had a quiet strength about her, and she and Osburn really felt like sisters. Spencer's character should have been either an unmentioned sister, or maybe Jake's that grew up close to Kathleen, M.J. and the rest, but was away for a few years before joining the force. Kristen Marie was o.k., but I always got a mousier vibe from her. Being pigeon-holed with Scott for most of the run hurt things for her, as well.  The Loves were also underserved between Rhonda Lewin and Philece Sampler. Philece would have been better as Nicole. Thank goodness Anne Heche  showed up for the next round of auditions. Christopher Holder was mediocre as Peter, but given a shot, I think Marcus Smythe could have stuck around for a while.  I would have had Peggy Lazarus be a Frame -- possibly an ex-wife for Vince with an agenda. Smythe and Hollen had  a fun chemistry that could have kept the two around.. Bringing recasts for  Cheryl and Ben back mixing it up with other Frames. Corys, Lawrences at the time might have kept all the families stronger.
    • shoot...he said in that Locher room with Krista. I think he met her before that---she was doing Broadway and they had mutual friends or an agent maybe?
