Suckass-Moron-a is no catch herself, people.

I always have to chime in whenever she's mentioned, her reputation is built purely upon Tweets from Jamey Giddens and not in the reality of her actual (lackluster/terrible) work or track record.

I was going to say this as I am not a fan of hers either, but I decided not to. I'm glad you did.

I agree but I still think she's light years better than Pratt. At least she was a Bill Bell protege. She'd know how to write traditional Y&R somewhat....

Jessica should have never been a pregnant teenager, but Erin played these scenes very well.

Agree.

So was John F. Smith.  But it was his time as HW that left Y&R vulnerable, IMO, to hacks like LML and MAB.

But I liked John F. Smith's stint at Y&R.

We're going way off-topic, and apologies to OLTL fans who may be pissed at this.

But I do think it's telling that Bell himself never re-hired Suckass-Moron-a after she left (and failed miserably) with the creation of Generations. In fact, by her own admission, it was SONY who rehired her in 2005 as a consultant, before LML fired her a year or so later. Also, she only spent about 4 years on Y&R in the mid-late 80s, there were "Bell proteges" who had been with the show much longer and through different incarnations of the show since her original stint with the show.

Judging by her writing from Generations on, this woman isn't even qualified to write her own suicide note, so the constant praise I see from people like Jamey Giddens and Nelson Branco seems based off of one popular catlight clip from Generations and not much else. I remember her taking credit and gloating about the Sheila poisoning Lauren with a necklace story beat during her 2005 return....

That was downright awful! At that point it was time to say goodbye to Sheila….they had run out of ideas.

If Paul Rauch and the writers had intended Sharon Gabet's Melinda to be a substitute for Robin Strasser's Dorian, then they failed.  Based on those YT clips, Gabet's Melinda was all over the place.  Not that Gabet didn't give Melinda her all, mind you.  The show just didn't know what to do with her.

Also, my God, was OLTL over-the-top at that time.  A serious cross between EDGE OF NIGHT (helped by the appearance of several vets from that show) and the nighttime soaps from that era...and not in the good way.

I think the problem with the substitute for Dorian is it seemed to mean sleeping with Jon Russell, being on TV, and talking with Cassie. And that wasn't what Dorian was.

I also don't think Sharon's acting style suited OLTL at that time.

On a positive note, I think this was the last time Melinda was portrayed as being at all mentally sane (and SG's Melinda may have been the only one, in fact, not to have a mental breakdown of any kind).

Actress and singer (musical star) Patricia Elliott (Rene #2) has passed away.   She had cancer.   I wlll try to post an obiturary later.

When Sharon Gabbet was playing Melinda, she had no mental breakdown, as an earlier poster correctly posted.  However, after she claimed to have travelled through time (which she had), she was accused of one and hospitalized or institutionalized.
