I watched this episode years ago, and IIRC, Carla is not in it. I mostly remember finally getting to see Gillian Spencer as Viki and Ernest Graves as Victor. In the episode, Meredith is missing, which is all I can recall at the moment. I'd really like to see it again the next time I'm up in New York.

I wasn’t sure if there was a thread on this done already but was curious to about stories that were either not approved by the network or the show changed course on:

In 1987, Tina was supposed to go to Hell the same time Viki went to Heaven (I guess after going over the falls, read this in a SOW issue from 1997) - this would have been an interesting contrast but she didn’t have the history Viki had IMO

Roxy was supposed to be Rex’s father and trans

RC proposed a time jump on OLTL (and GH, before getting approval on DAYS, glad it didn’t work out)

RC had a Plan A and Plan B if RH didn’t return as Todd for Tales of Two Todd’s, so I’m curious what that was

Tina was supposed to be arrested at her finale wedding to Cord for Victors murder but they scrapped it for their happy ending instead

Vimal was supposed to stay in prison but was released when Vimal/Rama took off (that may be unpopular but I loved them!)

Watching August 1994:

It’s amazing how often the show is overhauled, almost distracts me from watching any era (The Late 80s erased history and failed to build secondary characters, the early 90s was a total reboot, the late 90s lost everything the early 90s gave (except maybe Nora, Blair, Todd?) until the early 2000s folks stayed on through the end, finally stabilizing the community)

From that perspective, if Gabrielle, Megan or Sarah were still on it would go a long way outside of Max and Cord of keeping that late-80s unit alive, of course I wish AE had stayed as Tina, my all time fave

Viki is so hardened IMO from her late-80s tone, which I preferred

The drama with Todd being released from prison is pretty good, the show must have been very consistent in the drama going form Dorians murder trial back to the Todd terror.

I absolutely adore EB’s Rachel and she feels so sidelined and soon to be gone, and unfortunately VP’s Sheila is already recast.

The scenes of Blair confessing to Cassie that she ran Luna down were great, I will say Blair/Cassie/Marty/Nora are phenomenal. And Cassie getting onto Dorian for stealing Marty’s mansion is great too!

There was a point early on when it seemed like Michael Malone was making Viki far more snooty than she had been in the past.  I certainly felt that way as I was watching back then.

I really love Valarie Pettiford's Sheila, especially in the increasing amount of '92-'93 material that has surfaced in recent years. I barely remember her from when I was a kid but she's great, and the initial story with Hank/Sheila/Troy Nichols (which they apparently hired a Black writer for - I know, give 'em a medal, but in those years it was a considerable move), while definitely hamfisted at times in its broad approach to the men and their differing personalities, does not feel like a C-story in the '92 material. (I also really love the scene from summer '92 which is hopefully still on YT, where Rachel and Sheila discuss colorism and actually bring up Carla Hall.)

I adored Ellen Bethea. I know she left apparently to go back to the stage. And I'll always love Kassie but I've said it before and I'll say it again: The strong focus on Mia Korf's Blair in the '92 eps is still way ahead of its time. There have been no AAPI leads on daytime (if any leads at all) with that level of frontburner power since - period.

Linda Gottlieb and the rest of her producing team at OLTL should feel very grateful that they got away with recasting Blair with a Caucasian woman when they did.  That [!@#$%^&*] would never fly today, lol.

    • John Black actually was the ultimate good guy soap hero. So I don’t mind the town gushing over him. It’s deserved.
    • Be glad it wasn't a Perry production.

    • The whole town gushing over John Black as if he was a saint is eye rolling.  I guess death really colors people's memories over his many flaws, but I guess that is normal and human nature. I'm still confused as to why Leo hasn't been written out.  The actor stank up two soaps with his sub par acting, what does he have on TPTB's to remain on these soaps.   What's the point of Cat?  I hope the new head-writers figure out her purpose and develop her character. And I much prefer scenes not focusing on John's death because life does go on for the world when someone passes.
    • Wasn't there a break in Zaslow's first run? I thought Roger was off-screen for a while, and when Zas came back, Roger was hiding at the boarding house and Nola figured out there was something hinkey about him. I'm pretty sure Simon chose to leave the first time and was replaced by RVV. I don't want to assume Jordan's issues played a role in his first departure, but Maeve said in an interview that at some point, it became very hard for her to work with him and she asked to work with him less. That seems to fit 1986, where suddenly Vanessa is essentially Ross' law clerk and not at every Lewis family moment.
    • He needs to divorce her arse with her constant cheating.   She's no better than Doug... she's F*cking pathetic.
    • I didn't know of any interruptions for Maeve Kinkead after her 1997 return. Her runs would then be 1981-1987, 1989-1996, 1997-2000, short arcs until the end. I knew Maureen Garrett second run was interrupted from a 2009 interview but I couldn't recall the exact year. Her runs would then be 1976-1980, 1988-2000, short arcs until the end.
    • As I said in May, I have no problem with Martin and Bradley being married. You can still do all the fun introloper storylines with them as you do everyone else. Both men of a certain age, and it is very believable for them to have either a first love or have been previously married. And, you can do it without either of them cheating!

I said something similar during the premiere week. Bill was the perfect age to play Martin as Vernon and Anita's child. I would've much preferred this version, but oh well.
    • I don't know how you want to count Maeve. She "retired" in '00, but would come back for appearances. I don't know however if she made an appearance in '01 or '03. In '02 I believe she came back for Josh and Reva's wedding. I assume she came back when Gina Tognoni took over the role of Dinah. And I know she was back for Ross' memorial service. Maureen Garrett was around until at least '00. I don't think Holly was in town when Ben returned though. I just got pissed off about Jerry all over again.
    • So, pretty sure Zaslow, Garrett, Kinkead, and Newman all chose to leave the first time. (If that's wrong, please correct me). Bernau - not sure why he left the first time. Was it voluntary? Or did they decide to write him out? They were writing so many out during that time period. It always seemed odd to me that they introduced Alex, FINALLY giving him someone he could talk to, and then he was written out. Or maybe that's why they made Alex his sister, so she could take his place as the head of the Spaulding family? Would love more intel on that if anyone knows. Simon - was he replaced by RVV? Or did he voluntarily leave the first time? It seems to me like one of those times TPTB decided to sex up or glamorize a character (and it clearly flopped). If he was fired, interesting he came back. Again, would love if someone could spill the tea. Clarke - I've always assumed he left because of his personal issues, but not sure if that was the case the first time.
