As much as people lament that the mid to late 80s veered away from the original concept...I do admit that I liked the near death experience arc, the wild west arc, and even the underground city arc.

In a way, the show was about diversity and presenting ideas not always popular....a lot of people believe in near death experiences...and the time travel theor has always been around...and haven't we all wondered what it would be like to live undergeound.  Shame they didn't feature anyone living in the city...a character isolated from modern day society...would have truly been a harken to the shows roots..imho

I have no problem with sci-fi/fantasy storytelling; in fact, I often love it, when it is presented in the appropriate place. For me, however, daytime dramas are not that forum. Soaps have always worked best (and became and remained successful for decades) by telling multi-generational stories based upon interpersonal relationships, and remaining grounded in a semblance of reality. They do not have the time, the space, or the budget to do sci-fi effectively, and often the writing is so terrible that it ends up comprising all the characters involved. How am I supposed to empathize with Marlena Evans, or take her seriously again, knowing she's been possessed by the devil, LOL?

On the other hand, if a show is created TO BE based on supernatural or fantasy themes, go wild.

LHOTH certainly had its grisly and horrific moments, but it never went full-out sci-fi. There were "faith-based" moments, like when Laura ran away to the mountains after her baby brother died, and it was suggested that God helped reunite her with Charles, but nothing overtly impossible. Mary did not take a space ship to the future to cure her blindness, LOL.

Hi

I am from the UK and I was wondering if anyone could help me with a OLTL query?

One of my favourite actors, George Chakiris (West Side Story) was a guest star in this during 1984 but unfortunately that's all I know.

Does anyone know anything about what character he played, his storylines or how many episodes he was in or when in the year they were aired at all?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and many thanks.

Have a good day!

    • No. When he tried to blow up half the world As for when Andrew was kidnapped, Dimitri would reveal, during his tearful plea for Andrew's love, that it was Megan who put him up to it, and that deep down, he didn't want to hurt the true love of his life

    • Hmmmm....your Chandler Massey? You mean when Dimitri tied up Andrew?
    • Per today's developing L.A. situation, I will let someone else cover it. I am not out there because of my recent physical situation (though I'd like to be) but I'm perfectly safe. Honestly I expect it'll go as poorly for the administration as it's already beginning to, and good for the people who can be out there fighting but we've been here before. Charlottesville was an atrocity that should've ended a presidency and didn't, and now Trump in like Flynn and his second term is less than six months in. My general pragmatism has curdled into something entirely more fatalistic in recent months. I have no expectation for this changing anything materially about our larger situation, I just hope a lot of people don't die. And if it shackles or trips up the administration for awhile re: its fascist policies or actions, great.

    • I remembered this as well, so I was surprised that Tomas didn't seen to know what Eva was talking about.  I would be happy for them to go their separate ways and get help for their own addictions.
    • I admit it. Peter Porte is my Chandler Massey  And, because his previous storyline was just so gross and disgusting and poorly written, I feel the character and the actor deserve some redemption.  And what better storyline would there be then for it to be revealed that Dimitri and Andrew had a fling when he was in the ISA pretending to be Kyle Graham, and that Dimitri has returned to Salem to get Andrew, the true love of his life, back. I would even tie it in to what he tried to do in Beyond Salem, which a certain fired head writer basically wanted us to forget
    • You love your Dimitri. I wonder why.
    • A Will/Sonny/Paul/Andrew/Dimitri mess, in the aftermath of John's death. And if I was writing, Leo would've been dead and forgotten about already
